The acceleration phase of sprinting is a significant element of performance in many sports, yet evidence from novice university athletes in developing sport settings remains limited. This study aimed to examine the Effects of an Eight-Week Strength-Training Program on 20m Sprint Acceleration in Novice University Athletes. A randomized controlled pretest-posttest design was used with 20 novice registered athletes from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan (18-25 years), allocated to an experimental group (n = 10) and a control group (n = 10). Each group included five men and five women. The experimental group completed an 8week strength-oriented training intervention, three sessions per week, while the control group maintained usual physical activity. Sprint performance over 20 m was assessed with timing gates. Pretest and posttest data were analyzed using SPSS (Version 26), and appropriate parametric statistical tests were applied. Youth apostasy has become an issue raising deep theological, pastoral, and ethical concerns in the 21 st century. The article considers apostasy among youths through the lens of Christian ethics while also interpreting it as a journey of faith and self-discovery. The article argues that apostasy is not always a simple act of rebellion but a complex process shaped by identity formation, cultural influence, and personal experiences. The article further explores how secularism, media, technology, and institutional distrust contribute to the abandonment of faith among youths in the present age. In response, Christian ethics encourages a balanced approach that upholds truth while extending grace, emphasizing compassion, restoration, and relational engagement. Social media has become an ubiquitous part of the lives of students, which affects both behavioral health and academic performance. Although these platforms open up possibilities of communication, collaboration and access to educational resources, there is growing evidence regarding their multifaceted and sometimes contradictory impacts. This paper includes a narrative literature review that summarizes peer-reviewed articles published in the last four years (2016-2024) to explore the effects of social media on students. A search of major academic databases was organized, and studies that met the predefined inclusion criteria were selected based on the following aspects: student populations, use of social media, and related psychological and academic outcomes. The results show that uncontrolled and excessive use of social media is always linked to negative behavioral health effects, such as anxiety, depression, sleeping problems, and emotional control. Such effects have been associated with processes like social comparison, fear of missing out, and compulsive patterns of engagement. Meanwhile, excessive use is linked to decreased academic concentration, procrastination, and poorer academic achievement. Nevertheless, the review also reports possible advantages of the intentional and controlled use of social media, such as improved collaboration, access to learning materials, and peer support. All in all, the evidence indicates that the effects of social media are not necessarily positive or negative but are influenced by the patterns of usage, personal traits, and situational factors. The paper highlights the importance of moderate online use and specific interventions to promote student health and achievement.

The current study aimed to situate the development of adolescent narrative identity in the context of past-event conversations between adolescents and their mothers, extending work on conversational contexts in early childhood to adolescence. We examined a cross-section of 63 adolescents with 2 goals: (1) to examine how adolescent age and gender interacted with mothers' scaffolding behaviors and how those interactions were associated with adolescents' narrative processes of meaning-making, vulnerability, and resolution; (2) to examine mothers' behaviors in conversation and how the interactions between those behaviors and event type (important, sad, and happy themes) were associated with those narrative processes. We found that maternal behavior in the conversation was related to adolescent narrative processes, yet this link varied as a function of characteristics of the adolescent and type of event discussed. Overall results suggest that those with potentially less practice at narrating the self in elaborative ways-younger adolescents and boys-receive more supportive scaffolding, and that for those with likely more practice with elaborative narration-girls and older adolescents-mothers engage in more negation behavior. The role of these scaffolding behaviors in adolescent narrative identity development is discussed.

Distinct forms of gender-based victimization (e.g., sexist experiences, slutshaming, sexual harassment, and homophobic bullying) are often studied in isolation among adolescent girls, yet some girls are likely to experience multiple forms simultaneously. Researchers have theorized that these forms of gender-based victimization can function to regulate culturally acceptable gendered expression and behavior, but more empirical work is needed to understand these linkages. We had two aims: (a) to identify profiles of gender-based victimization (i.e., sexist experiences, slut-shaming, sexual harassment, and homophobic bullying) among adolescent girls and (b) to understand how these profiles are associated with girls' relationships to gender norms (i.e., gender expression, internalized sexism, internalized sexualization, and sexual identity). We analyzed data from a larger study on adolescents' peer experiences and attitudes in Québec, Canada (n = 203 girls, M age = 15.4 years, 30% racialized minorities). We used latent profile analysis to identify patterns of gender-based victimization experiences, and then we used latent variable multinomial regression to test the association between the profiles of victimization and girls’ relationships to gender norms. The best model was a two-profile solution: High Victimization and Low Victimization. Compared to the Low Victimization group, participants in the High Victimization group were more likely to identify as sexual minorities and report higher levels of internalized sexualization. Our findings support intervention and prevention approaches that focus on the links between multiple forms of gender-based violence and that acknowledge sexualization and sexual minority status as risk factors. Ultimately, our results suggest that one function of gender-based victimization is policing gender norms.

This comparison shows the scarcity of such vital rite celebrations in contemporary America. Instead, there has been a switch to age-focused ritualization activities for youth becoming adults. This has led to an ineffective and unfulfilling coming-of-age experience for many. Self-oriented or group-oriented rites have emerged to meet the current felt need that are enacted by youth themselves. Mental health is a crucial factor in overall well-being, affecting cognitive function, emotional stability, and social interactions. Globally, disorders like depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are rising, significantly impacting quality of life and productivity. University students, particularly in Nigeria, face stressors such as academic pressure, financial strain, and social adaptation, which contribute to mental health challenges. This study investigates mental health challenges and coping mechanisms among undergraduates of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It assesses students' mental health status, identifies contributing factors, and evaluates coping strategies for mental health challenges among undergraduates of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. A cross-sectional survey design was used, with data collected from 367 students across three faculties. A structured questionnaire and two adapted questionnaires were employed for data collection. Data analysis was conducted using Statistical Products for Service Solution (SPSS, version 23.0). The findings of the study revealed moderate rates of anxiety (39.2%), depression (61%), panic disorder (58.9%), and social anxiety disorder (60.2%), with academic pressure (60.2%), family issues (51.8%), poor time management (54.5%), and stress (69.5%) exacerbating these problems. Eating disorders were relatively less prevalent among respondents than other conditions, as 66.2% reported low levels of the disorder. Strategies the respondents use to cope with mental health challenges include talking to friends and family (68.9%), meditation and mindfulness (62.4%), and engaging in hobbies (65.9%). The study underscores the need for mental health programs and support services to enhance student mental well-being.

Teachers are the main guides in supporting students’ physical, social, emotional, and
cognitive development. Classrooms have diverse learners, including those with special needs;
thus, appropriate instructional methods are highly needed to support such environments.
Students with special needs experience difficulties in almost every avenue of life; hence,
especially in learning at school, they require special teaching approaches. Technology
has provided an avenue for reducing barriers and increasing inclusion during instruction.
The current study aims to establish whether technological tools and multimedia motivate,
engage, and support students with special needs in both learning and classroom integration.
A quantitative approach was adopted, in which 25 items of a questionnaire were completed
by teachers, assistants, and psychologists from rural and urban primary schools in Gjilan,
Kosovo. Results reveal that increased use of technology enhances both inclusion and
motivation for students with special needs and that limited staff training acts as an inhibitor

Internet and social media content offers a psychological risk and protection challenge for the development of children and adolescents, depending upon the quality of supervision they receive. Moreover, understanding the levels of online content risk between diverse cultures is an under investigated area of research. To address this, the current study presents partial findings from an ongoing research project involving researchers from Brazil and Australia. Phase I of the study aimed to identify the self-reported contemporary concerns and experiences of adolescents in Brazil regarding harmful online content, as well as the perceived concerns of parents, educators and health service professionals. Thirty-three people from Brazil participated: 13 adolescents; 11 parents or legal guardians of adolescents; and 9 professionals who work with adolescents in different services. Data collection included a questionnaire to characterize sociodemographic variables and separate Focus Groups (FGs) with the above-mentioned groups. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the sociodemographic variables, and qualitative data from FGs were analyzed through Thematic Analysis. 15 themes related to the risks and concerns raised by the participants were found, and 9 of them were similar among the three groups. This research may inform future interventions aimed at improving adults' guidance and supervision regarding adolescents' use of the internet and social media. Phase II will be replicating this study with an Australian population and will allow a cross-cultural analysis to determine whether there are any differences regarding concerns of the groups by country of origin of the participants.

Safe and equitable reproductive healthcare is essential for the health, autonomy, and well-being of women of reproductive age. Reproductive health services such as family planning, antenatal and postnatal care, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, safe abortion services where legal, and reproductive health education play a vital role in reducing maternal morbidity and mortality and promoting gender equality. Despite global and national commitments to improving reproductive health outcomes, many women at the community level continue to experience unequal access to these essential services. This study critically examines access to reproductive healthcare by exploring the range of available services, the determinants that influence access, the barriers that persist, and possible strategies to improve service utilisation. Access to reproductive healthcare is influenced by several factors, including socioeconomic status, level of education, place of residence (rural or urban), health system capacity, cultural norms, gender relations, and policy environments. Major barriers include financial costs, long distances to health facilities, inadequate infrastructure, stigma and concerns about confidentiality, limited decision-making power among women, and negative attitudes from healthcare providers. These challenges often cause women to delay or avoid seeking necessary care. The Health Belief Model (HBM) provides the theoretical framework for this study by explaining how individual beliefs and perceptions influence healthcare-seeking behaviour. Key components of the model are perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and selfefficacy help explain differences in the use or non-use of reproductive health services. These beliefs are shaped by broader social and health system contexts. Overall, improving access to safe and equitable reproductive healthcare requires a comprehensive and multi-level approach. Governments and health authorities should strengthen primary healthcare systems by providing adequate human resources, essential reproductive health commodities, and quality services, particularly in underserved communities, to enhance women's health outcomes and well-being.

A infância é um período sensível do desenvolvimento, no qual a qualidade do sono e a
exposição a estressores ambientais exercem impacto direto sobre o funcionamento
cognitivo, emocional, comportamental e social da criança. Nesse contexto, a compreensão das relações entre sono, estresse e desempenho funcional torna-se fundamental para a promoção da saúde física, mental e social, bem como para a prevenção de desfechos negativos em idade escolar. Este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir, a partir de uma revisão narrativa da literatura, as inter-relações entre padrões de sono, níveis de estresse e desempenho funcional em crianças, destacando implicações para a prática interdisciplinar em saúde. Trata-se de um estudo de caráter teórico, baseado em busca de artigos, diretrizes e documentos técnicos nas bases de dados SciELO, PubMed e PsycINFO, além de materiais de órgãos nacionais em saúde da criança, publicados prioritariamente nos últimos oito anos. A análise foi realizada de forma descritiva, agrupando achados em eixos temáticos: características do sono na infância, estresse (agudo, crônico e tóxico), desempenho funcional (rotina diária, funções executivas, regulação emocional, participação escolar e social) e estratégias de intervenção. Os resultados indicam que dificuldades de sono e níveis elevados de estresse associam-se a prejuízos em atenção, memória, controle inibitório, humor, comportamento e participação em atividades acadêmicas e sociais, além de maior risco para sintomas ansiosos, depressivos e queixas somáticas. Evidenciam-se,
ainda, relações bidirecionais entre sono e estresse, mediadas por fatores familiares,
escolares e socioeconômicos. Conclui-se que a avaliação e o manejo do sono e do estresse devem integrar rotineiramente o cuidado em saúde da criança, com estratégias interdisciplinares que envolvam família, escola e serviços de saúde, incluindo ações de educação em saúde, psicoeducação, promoção de rotinas saudáveis e intervenções focadas em autorregulação e suporte psicossocial.

Previous studies have focused on how positive experiences within youths' families, schools, and communities facilitate greater social trust and political participation. However, less is known about how negative interpersonal experiences-such as criminal victimization-intersect with youths' beliefs about the trustworthiness, competence, and knowledge of government officials, and their participation in political activity. At the middle school level, students' ability to make good decisions is considered fragile, due to their greater impulsivity, compared to other stages of human development. In contrast, at this age, students perform rapid perceptual and motor decision-making tasks as well as adults, for example recognizing a signal on a screen or reacting to an image. In general, when emotional elements are introduced, students' performance becomes weaker. Some authors believe that at this stage the most intense feelings take place, materializing in the desire for affirmation, self-confidence, adverse reactions to parents' wishes, stubbornness and impudence. Thinking is in full development, and is based on analysis, synthesis, comparison and generalization. Self-concern appears, interest in oneself awakens and the spirit of observation and criticism develops. Decision-making is an intrinsic factor of everyday life. Within school activities, students have to make decisions at every step. However, the school curricula of compulsory subjects in the gymnasium do not specify anything expressly regarding the development of decision-making capacity. In general, it is considered that this ability develops simultaneously with the cognitive and emotional development of the student. The aim of the article is to highlight the potential of school physical education, in order to develop decisionmaking capacity in students in middle school. Our main arguments refer to the infinity of practical situations offered to students in the practice of this discipline, situations that involve multiple variables.

This paper addresses the question of how skin conditions affect preteens/teens' mental health and self-esteem. This paper is a synthesis review of findings from six recent studies, which address issues of adolescent skin disorders to highlight their impact and intervention in a person's life. Acne, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and psoriasis are skin conditions that are generally found in adolescence. Over 85% of teens have been frequently affected by acne throughout the years of teenage to adulthood. Skin conditions can lead adolescents to isolate themselves, causing emotional distress and poor quality of life. Increasing the rate of depression and anxiety, which is why it is important to raise awareness on such matters.

Background-Fish are important sources of protein and contain a variety of nutrients, such as n-3 longchain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), essential for normal brain development. Nevertheless, all fish also contain methyl mercury (MeHg), a known neurotoxicant in adequate dosage. Our studies of the Seychelles Child Development Study (SCDS) Main Cohort enrolled in 1989-1990 (n=779) have found no consistent pattern of adverse MeHg effects at exposures achieved by daily fish consumption. Rather, we have observed evidence of improved performance on some cognitive endpoints as prenatal MeHg exposure increases in the range studied. These observations cannot be related to MeHg and may reflect the role of unmeasured covariates such as essential nutrients present in fish. To determine if these associations persist into young adulthood, we examined the relationship between prenatal MeHg exposure, recent PUFA exposure and subjects' neurodevelopment and behavior at 19 years of age. Methods-We examined 533 participants using the following test battery: the Profile of Mood States-Bipolar (POMS-Bi); Finger Tapping; Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-BIT); measures of Fine Motor Control and Complex Perceptual Motor Control; and Visual Spatial Contrast Sensitivity. We collected the following covariates: maternal IQ, family life course stressors, socioeconomic status, and subjects' recent postnatal MeHg, sex, and computer use. Primary analyses (based on N=392-475) examined covariate-adjusted associations in multiple linear regression models with prenatal MeHg as the primary exposure measure. Secondary analyses additionally adjusted for total n-6 and fish-related n-3 PUFA measured in the subjects serum at the 19-year examination. Results-Study participants had a mean prenatal MeHg exposure of 6.9 ppm, and a mean recent postnatal exposure of 10.3 ppm. There were no adverse associations between prenatal MeHg and

In contrast, age, but not pubertal maturation, predicted increased cost avoidance, mediated through greater impulse control. These findings add to evidence that adolescent behavior is best understood as the product of two interacting, but independently developing, brain systems.

With the expansion of industrialisation and rapid development of economy in China, migration of the rural population to the urban areas in seek of employment has resulted in changes in the family structure and increased number of left-behind children (LBC) in China. Numerous studies on LBC have concluded the critical issues among the children related to their overall well-being and their performance at school. The current study aimed to investigate the impact of emotional, cognitive and behavioural engagement of the LBC on the academic achievement of the left behind children. Quantitative research method was used and the sample were 186 leftbehind children in Henan Province, China. To measure school engagement, the instrument developed by Finlay (2006) was used. Correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between the various predictors and academic achievement. The findings concluded that emotional, cognitive and behavioural engagement of the LBC at school were significantly correlated with academic achievement. The hierarchical regression findings concluded that emotional engagement (β= .268; t= 3.593, p<0.000, cognitive engagement (β= .245; t= 3.284, p<0.000 and care takers (β= .132; t= 2.009, p<0.05) were significant predictors of academic achievement of the LBC.

The widespread adoption of social media among pre-teens (ages 8-12) has emerged as a major public health concern, with links to increased anxiety, depression, problematic use, and sleep disturbances. Parental digital mediation active discussion, restrictive rules, co-use, and monitoring represents a modifiable protective factor. This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 28 studies published between 2021 and 2025 examining the relationship between parental mediation strategies and pre-teen mental health outcomes. Active mediation consistently shows the strongest protective associations with better emotional regulation and lower problematic social media use, while overly restrictive approaches without explanation can increase reactance, secrecy, and anxiety. Hybrid strategies (co-use and transparent monitoring) appear promising for building resilience. In low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as Pakistan, cultural norms of high parental authority interact with limited digital literacy, making culturally adapted interventions urgent. Public health implications include the need for low-cost family programs, school-based digital literacy initiatives, and policy support for parents in resource-limited settings. Gaps in longitudinal and Global South research are highlighted.

Nigeria’s education system faces persistent challenges of teacher competence, inadequate digital infrastructure, and systemic inequities that limit effective teaching and learning. Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents a transformative opportunity to address these gaps by supporting adaptive instruction, automating professional development, and enhancing pedagogical decision-making. However, its integration remains constrained by infrastructural limitations, low digital literacy, and sociocultural barriers. This study develops a conceptual framework for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Nigeria’s education sector, emphasizing its transformative potential in enhancing teacher competence and advancing systemic outcomes. The framework is structured around four interrelated constructs: technological and sociological readiness, teacher professional development, AI-enhanced teacher competence, and student and system outcomes. This study explored how AI can be inclusively positioned to strengthen teacher capacity. It adopts a dual-lens framework: the technological perspective, focusing on tools, platforms, and infrastructure; and the sociological perspective, emphasizing on teacher attitudes, equity of access, and systemic readiness. The research addresses a critical gap by contextualizing AI adoption within Nigeria’s unique educational realities, rather than relying on global models that may not align with local needs. Even the youngest of the adolescents made these distinctions. Nonetheless, both age and experience were associated with changes in the use of descriptors. References to intimacy increased in both types of relationships, and references to passion and affiliation decreased. These age-and experience-related differences occurred independently of each other. The results are consistent with the view that even young adolescents who are lacking extensive experiences with cross-sex and romantic relationships would have an awareness of the core features of romantic relationships. Moreover their conceptions were consistent with adults' views of love and friendship suggesting a shared cultural base for conceptions of cross-sex friendship and romantic relationships.

The goal of this study was to examine youths' narratives of their identity development during a residential, wilderness, and family therapy program. A semistructured interview was conducted, and thematic analysis was used. Youth described their identity in terms of who they learned to be in their relationships, which included being authentic, vulnerable, accepting of themselves and others, empathetic, and honest. They discussed a number of program elements that influenced their identity development, all of which involved relationships with staff, therapists, and other students. Results of this study have implications for staff training, program development, and program evaluation.

This study explored the effectiveness of a developed multimedia-based Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in facilitating students' comprehension of complex concepts in Technical Drawing, with particular attention to perceptions, gender-based reactions, and instructional design quality. Guided by the ADDIE model, the VLE addressed persistent challenges in teaching orthographic projection, sectional views, and assembly drawing in Nigerian secondary schools due to continued reliance on traditional and manual teaching methods. Quantitative analysis of students' perceptions (n = 54) revealed highly favorable responses, with itemised mean scores ranging from 3.3 to 3.8 and a grand mean of 3.5. Students found the VLE usable, pedagogically rich, and engaging, especially in its capacity to simplify difficult content and foster individualized learning. Regarding gender, male students reported slightly higher attitude scores (M = 3.38) than females (M = 3.23), though the difference was not statistically significant, t(52) = 1.67, p > .05. This suggests the VLE's inclusiveness across gender lines. Expert evaluation by educational technologists yielded a grand mean of 3.5, validating the platform's design as learnercentered, procedurally structured, and interaction-rich. Most notably, a paired samples ttest confirmed a significant improvement in academic performance post-intervention, t(53) = 28.41, p < .001, with a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 3.85). The findings collectively endorse the VLE as a highly effective, engaging, and inclusive instructional tool for Technical Drawing pedagogy in contemporary digital classrooms.

This paper explores the rise of digital begging among Nigerian youths, popularly expressed through the phrase "urgent 2K," and its implications for morality and culture. Once stigmatized, begging has become normalized in online spaces, where anonymity and humour soften its perception. While poverty and unemployment contribute to this trend, its prevalence among youths from affluent backgrounds reveals a deeper moral disorientation. Drawing on Anomie Theory, Dependency Theory, Moral Theology, and African Traditional Moral Philosophy, the study argues that online begging reflects weakened social norms, entitlement, and distorted values rather than mere economic hardship. The practice undermines dignity, productivity, and communal responsibility, signalling institutional failures in families, schools, religious bodies, and governance. The paper concludes that addressing this crisis requires a holistic restoration of moral values, digital responsibility, and the dignity of labour, alongside structural reforms, to reorient Nigerian youth culture toward discipline and self-reliance.

The current management of thalassemia includes regular transfusion programs and chelation therapy. It is important that physicians be aware that endocrine abnormalities frequently develop mainly in those patients with significant iron overload due to poor compliance to treatment, particularly after the age of 10 years. Since the quality of life of thalassemia patients is a fundamental aim, it is vital to monitor carefully their growth and pubertal development in order to detect abnormalities and to initiate appropriate and early treatment. Abnormalities should be identified and treatment initiated in consultation with a pediatric or an adult endocrinologist and managed accordingly. Appropriate management shall put in consideration many factors such as age, severity of iron overload, presence of chronic liver disease, thrombophilia status, and the presence of psychological problems. All these issues must be discussed by the physician in charge of the patient's care, the endocrinologist and the patient himself. Because any progress in research in the field of early diagnosis and management of growth disorders and endocrine complications in thalassemia should be passed on to and applied adequately to all those suffering from the disease, on the 8 May 2009 in Ferrara, the International Network on Endocrine Complications in Thalassemia (I-CET) was founded in order to transmit the latest information on these disorders to the treating physicians. The I-CET position statement outlined in this document applies to patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia major to help physicians to anticipate, diagnose, and manage these complications properly.

Eighty-one percent of the AD sample reported no ideation; however, 96% made an attempt. For the SSRI group, 52% reported no ideation; however, 95% made an attempt. Sensitivity 80.3%, specificity 98.1%. Internal consistency 0.75 to 0.92. Test-retest scores 0.78 to 0.98, and neurodiagnostic correlations 0.70 to 0.98. Some scores correlated significantly with the "gold standard" Barnes Akathisia Rating Scale. Conclusion NIS is associated with alarmingly high rates of youth suicide attempt. The new neuropsychological measure demonstrates practical screening value in unobvious NIS proposed to represent a heretofore unrecognized neural mechanism. Parental self-efficacy (PSE) captures parents' beliefs in their ability to perform the parenting role successfully and to handle pivotal issues of specific developmental periods. Although previous studies have shown that, across the transition to adolescence, parents show decreasing levels of PSE while adolescents exhibit increasing engagement in rule-breaking (RB) behaviors, there is a paucity of studies investigating whether and how changes in PSE are related to late adolescents' RB behaviors across development. The present study examined the developmental trends of PSE among Italian mothers and fathers over seven waves (representing children's transition from late childhood to late adolescence; approximately from 9 to 18 years old) as well as the longitudinal associations between PSE and RB behaviors during late adolescence. Data were drawn from seven waves of the Parenting Across Cultures (PAC) project, a large-scale longitudinal, cross-cultural study, and included 200 Italian children (M AgeAtTime1 = 9.80, SD = 0.65; 50.5% girls) and their parents (200 mothers; 190 fathers). PSE was measured across all seven time-points (from T1 to T7), while adolescents' RB behaviors were measured at the first and last assessment (T1 and T7). Results of univariate latent growth models showed a cubic trend of mothers' PSE, which revealed a decreasing pattern characterized initially by a slight decline, followed by a rebound before continuously decreasing. By contrast, fathers' PSE followed a linear decrease over time. Finally, our findings evidenced that only the slope of mothers' PSE negatively predicted adolescents' RB behaviors at T7, implying that mothers who maintained higher levels of PSE over time had children who later engaged in lower RB behaviors. The study implications are discussed.

Measurement invariance analysis was utilized to determine if teachers rated the 2 groups using the same underlying construct for each of the rating scale items that have been designed to assess withdrawn behavior. Method The Teacher Behavior Rating Scale (TBRS; C. H. These range from the classic storm and stress characterizations to the currently popular, more modest estimates of "transformations" (Baumrind, 1991)but all posit change. Some research on change has assessed the quality of the relationship between parents and adolescents (for example, the level of closeness or conflict), grounding the work in psychoanalytic, sociobiological, or cognitivedevelopmental theories . In adult thalassemia major (TM) patients, a number of occult and emerging endocrine complications, such as: central hypothyroidism (CH), thyroid cancer, latent hypocortisolism, and growth hormone deficiency (GHD) have emerged and been reported. As the early detection of these complications is essential for appropriate treatment and follow-up, the International Network of Clinicians for Endocrinopathies in Thalassemia and Adolescent Medicine (ICET-A) promoted a survey on these complications in adult TM patients, among physicians (pediatricians, hematologists and endocrinologists) caring for TM patients in different countries. The data reported by 15 countries are presented.The commonest endocrine complications registered in 3.114 TM adults are CH and GHD (4.6 % and 3.0 %, respectively), followed by latent hypocortisolism (1.2%). In 13 patients (0.41%) a cytological papillary or follicular thyroid carcinoma was diagnosed in 11 and 2 patients, respectively, and a lobectomy or thyroidectomy was carried out. Of 202 TM patients below the age of 18 years, the reported endocrine complications were: GHD in 4.5%, latent hypocortisolism in 4.4% and central hypothyrodisim in 0.5%. Transition phase was an area of interest for many clinicians, especially as patients with complex chronic health conditions are responding to new treatments extending their lifespan beyond imagination.. In conclusion, our survey provides a better understanding of physicians' current clinical practices and beliefs in the detection, prevention and treatment of some endocrine complications prevailing in adult TM patients. Regular surveillance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up in a multi-disciplinary specialized setting are recommended.

Hypogonadism is likely to be caused by iron deposits in the gonads, pituitary gland, or both. The treatment of pubertal disorders in thalassaemia is a complex issue due to the frequent coexistence of other factors such as severity of iron overload, chronic liver disease, insulin-dependent diabetes, and/or the identification of a hypercoagulable state. In addition, splenectomy can contribute to, and increase, the risk of thrombosis.

Failure of pubertal growth, delay or absence of sexual development, infertility and sexual dysfunction due to hypogonadism and defective spermatogenesis are frequent and well recognized disturbances among male patients with transfusion dependent (TD) thalassaemia major (β-thal). These problems are attributed mainly to the damage caused by chronic anaemia and the deposition of excess iron in the pituitary gland and testicles. This is a short review of male pubertal disorders in patients with β-thal written by pediatric endocrinologists and haematologists with an interest and active involvement, in the diagnosis and management of these complications in this group of patients. A vigilant clinical evaluation of growth and puberty, as well as an appropriate hormonal evaluation in poly-transfused (TD β-thal) patients is strongly recommended for early detection and treatment of endocrine dysfunction. Of crucial importance also, is the implementation of an efficient chelation regime from early life, to prevent severe iron load and permanent damage to the endocrine glands, particularly those responsible for gonadal function.
