Art School launches new Graduate Diploma Arts: Mosaics
22 December 2025
City & Guilds of London Art School is delighted to announce the launch of the Graduate Diploma Arts: Mosaics, commencing in 2026/27.
Created in collaboration with team members from the former London School of Mosaic, this course celebrates a unique commitment to craft, heritage and contemporary making and will be the UK’s only higher education-level qualification in mosaic.
About the course
The course offers a distinctive pathway for artists and makers to explore mosaic as a contemporary artform deeply rooted in tradition.
Students will develop their creative voice through hands on work, from cutting and setting tesserae to experimenting with scale, texture, colour and composition. Grounded in craft and emphasising practical, material exploration, using both traditional and modern tools and materials, the Graduate Diploma invites students to see mosaic as a space where fine art and architecture intersect and storytelling comes alive.
Reflecting on the launch of the course, Dr Lois Rowe, Principal, said:
“We are delighted to be growing our portfolio of craft, heritage and contemporary arts to include this unique qualification in mosaics. As an Art School that celebrates using historical approaches as a lens on our present moment, this Grad Dip Arts in Mosaics will uniquely support students in developing
a materially informed practice, underpinned by research that will open up unique professional opportunities.”
