The blood bank attached to the hospital provides blood to all the patients undergoing surgery by bleeding voluntary donors only.

The blood bank maintains strict quality standards as per the Indian Pharmacopia.
The blood bank caters to the requirements of the various departments of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram as well as Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthi Nilayam. On an average around 25 to 30 units of blood or its products like packed cells, platelets, fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate are being consumed daily.
An extensive database of both common and rare blood group donors is being maintained who are contacted in case of emergency.
A vehicle is at the disposal of the blood bank, which ferries voluntary blood donors for Puttaparthi town to the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram blood bank and back. Donors from other nearby towns are reimbursed with to and fro transport charges. The donors are also provided with lunch or dinner as the case may be post donation.
A record number over 238 rare blood group surgeries and procedures have been performed over the last one year. The blood was received from voluntary blood donors only.
