Retirement Benefits
Yes. For newly hired, full-time union and non-union employees, METRO offers both of the following:
457(b) deferred compensation plan
401(a) defined contribution plan
Both are administered by Empower Retirement.
METRO automatically contributes 4% of your annual salary to your 401(a).
Additionally, if you choose to contribute money to your 457(b) deferred compensation plan, METRO will match your contribution up to 4% and put it in your 401(a). That money will not appear on your paycheck; it's deposited directly in your 401(a) retirement plan.
To receive retirement funds from your 401(a), newly hired, full-time union and non-union employees must meet
both

Other Benefits
Yes. All regular, full-time union and non-union employees are eligible to receive up to $5,000 in tuition reimbursement per calendar year when attending an accredited school. To be eligible, an employee must meet a set of requirements, degree or certification. Please ask ahead of time for details.
Yes. All METRO employees receive a transit pass for themselves and a spouse (if applicable). The pass entitles the user to ride the following METRO transit services free of charge at all times:

No, all employees are required to work their regular schedules, on-site at their assigned locations.

No. 1 priority
. Training for newly hired bus operators takes approximately 10 weeks to complete. If you successfully complete your training, you'll be assigned to one of our operating facilities.
Reliability
You must be reliable and maintain a very flexible schedule, with availability to work any schedule, including on weekends and holidays. METRO operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and all bus routes must be covered, as the public expects our buses
to be on time.

To become a full-time METRO police officer, you must possess or meet the following criteria:
Valid TCOLE license
Valid Texas driver's license
21 years of age or older
United States citizen
High school diploma or GED; or a minimum of two (2) years of active military service with a DD-214 Honorable Discharge.
No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions. No class B misdemeanor convictions within ten (10) years of the date of application. No convictions of any family violence.
Successfully pass all elements of the medical, psychological and other pre-employment screenings
Meet all criteria set forth in TCOLE rule 217.1, and Texas Occupational Code Section 1701.255.
The selection process takes about 60-120 days. It’s conducted in phases:
Phase 1 – Preliminary background check
Phase 2 – Oral review board
Phase 3 – Formal interview and background investigation
Phase 4 – Human Resources and various pre-employment tests
