We will help you take the first step — whether you are embarking on a career change, enhancing your professional credentials or tackling prerequisite requirements for a master’s degree program.
The Computer Programming Certificate is designed for
individuals with a bachelor’s degree in any field other than computer science or computer engineering
. Through an eight-course program, you will build the skills you need to grow your career or pursue a master’s degree.
The certificate program, offered in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science, can be completed as a non-degree student (NDS). A certificate will be awarded to NDS students who have met the course requirements. The certificate is not part of graduation but is awarded as recognition of a student completing this series of courses.

This certificate provides the opportunity for students to take graduate courses without the commitment of undertaking a full master’s degree. Some electrical engineering master’s programs will let you apply your certificate coursework to degree requirements.

Computer Engineering Graduate Certificate
The online Graduate Certificate in Computer Engineering is primarily for individuals who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in Computer Engineering either for future career opportunities or in preparation for a graduate degree. Students who complete the certificate will gain foundational knowledge in connected systems, networking applications and computer architecture. Hone your skills in the analysis, design and operation of computing devices and software with coursework totaling 12 credit hours.

Data Science Foundations Graduate Certificate
Offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics
This online and on-campus program is primarily intended for working professionals who have some formal training in computer science or statistics and wish to acquire a basic understanding of data science to improve their on-the-job experience and career prospects. Students have the option of completing the certificate part-time by taking one course per semester.

Biomanufacturing Online Graduate Certificates
For distance education students, the Online Biomanufacturing Graduate Certificate is an excellent option for gaining a BTEC credential without being onsite. The Online Biomanufacturing Graduate Certificate is only available to online students enrolled through the Engineering Online program(opens in a new window).
Each certificate requires 12 hours of graduate coursework, which can be transferred to the Master of Biomanufacturing program.

Downstream Biomanufacturing & Upstream Biomanufacturing Graduate Certificates

Engineering Management Foundations Graduate Certificate
This certificate is for engineering, STEM, or technical students seeking or experiencing transitions into increasing levels of responsibility and/or management roles. The program provides students the principles and foundational concepts for the planning and operational management of industrial, engineering, and technical organizational pursuits. Students may qualify to have their credits transferred into the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) degree program.

The Materials Informatics (MI) Graduate Certificate Program (GCP) is designed for interdisciplinary graduate education at the intersection of materials science, engineering, and data science with the aim of preparing the next generation of materials engineers given the growing demand for data-science skills and knowledge of the artificial intelligence. The skills and knowledge obtained will serve as foundation for the understanding of materials informatics and high throughput materials discovery that will improve career prospects.

Materials Science and Engineering Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is designed for working professionals who do not have formal training in materials science and engineering but wish to acquire a basic understanding of the discipline. From nuclear materials to metallic materials processing, and from polymer technology to composite materials, this program opens the door to the knowledge you need to develop and test materials, and solve engineering problems related to materials capabilities.

Health Physics
Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Health Physics (GCHP) is intended to support industry, government, military and the national laboratories with expertise in radiation safety for workers who have not had formal education in the same. Many engineers and specialists work in the nuclear field who might be mechanical, electrical or civil engineers, etc. and may seek to supplement this education with radiation safety science and technology. Even graduate nuclear engineering students often have interest in health physics and obtaining this credential will enable them to demonstrate to future employers a meaningful commitment and basic competence in the same. It is further intended that this curriculum will assist students seeking to eventually become certified as health physicists through the American Board of Health Physics. This certificate is intended to help prepare students for the Board exam, and to qualify them to obtain professional experience that is also required for certification.

Nuclear Nonproliferation Science and Policy Graduate Certificate
The objective of the program is to educate students about nuclear nonproliferation, safeguards, and security from both the global and the technical perspectives. Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art techniques and will develop an understanding of the technical and policy challenges to maintain and support a robust nuclear nonproliferation regime. This process will be supported by assignments designed to reinforce understanding of the individual subject areas covered, class projects which cover key areas such as proliferation case studies and physical security simulations, as well as interactions with subject matter experts in nuclear nonproliferation technology and policy.

Graduate Certificate
The program is intended for both working professionals, such as community college educators and working engineers who have teaching engineering topics as a part of their job responsibilities, and graduate students enrolled at NC State. Individuals who enroll in the program must have backgrounds in at least one field of engineering, applied mathematics, and/or engineering physics , and would select the program to provide distinction in their academic records that may improve career prospects. Students who wish to pursue a traditional engineering academic career may also choose to take the certificate to enhance their employability at a wider range of institutions and to prepare themselves for educating 21st century engineers.
