The Forbidden City in Beijing was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the world's largest surviving wooden palace complex, UNESCO listed.

Overview

The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, is located at the center of Beijing's central axis. Built between 1406 and 1420, it served as the imperial palace for both the Ming and Qing dynasties. It covers 720,000 square meters with over 9,000 rooms. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
