Overview
The Great Wall of China is an ancient military defense project that began during the Spring and Autumn Period. After unifying China, Emperor Qin Shi Huang connected the walls of various states. The existing Great Wall mainly dates from the Ming Dynasty. In 2012, the total length was measured at 21,196.18 kilometers. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
