History of the Act
The DNREC Division of Climate, Coastal and Energy supports energy efficiency and conservation programs that help reduce energy use and its impact on the state’s environment and public health. Every investment in energy efficiency helps increase productivity and profits for business, reduces the production of harmful greenhouse gasses, lowers energy costs, and improves the value and comfort of our homes and businesses.

Energy Efficiency is Important for Delaware
Making your home energy efficient can help Delaware’s economy and environment, and it can help you save money. DNREC’s
Delaware Energy Efficiency Potential Study
noted that overall electric consumption could be reduced by almost 20 percent through 2025. The report noted that energy efficiency is highly cost-effective – investing $1 in Delaware energy efficiency programs will return $2.40 to the economy.
An
update of the study
issued in 2019 found that, overall, cost-effective savings continued to be possible for both electricity and natural gas in Delaware. According to the update, “Programs which capture all achievable savings would have benefits 2.18 times greater than their costs, and result in net benefits of over $1 billion.”
Lower your spending on energy.
There are
simple steps
you can take to cut your monthly energy bills by up to 30 percent.

Replace regular incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs or with LED bulbs
Adjust your thermostat to just the heating or cooling you really need
Upgrade to high-efficiency appliances
Weatherize your home
by insulating electrical outlets, windows, doors, attics and other areas that may let in drafts
Reduce your energy use during peak use times (Check with your utility for more information)
Most of these steps have low costs but return results and saving quickly.
You can start with a
home energy assessment
through Energize Delaware to learn how to make your home more energy efficient.
Improve air quality
by reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. By doing your part in energy conservation, you can help improve public health by reducing harmful air and water pollution, making Delaware a safe home for you and your loved ones.
Help Delaware keep utility prices manageable for everyone.
The more energy is used by residents and businesses, the higher prices will go in the future, making it harder to provide residents with the energy that they need for everyday routines.
Create new jobs for Delawareans.
Cutting energy costs can increase spending in other areas, providing well-paying jobs for those in need of employment.
