Lewis Hine Pictures America
From Feb. 21 - May 17, 2026, explore the work of Lewis Wickes Hine, the "father of documentary photography," at The Frick Pittsburgh with Lewis Hine Pictures America. Hine's artistic photos exposed the harsh realities faced by immigrants, children, and the working class in their everyday lives during the early decades of the twentieth century.

Chinese Porcelains from the Collection
This special installation showcases Henry Clay Frick's broad and stunning collection of Chinese porcelains, which once decorated both Clayton and the Fricks' summer estate, Eagle Rock. Frick's collection of porcelains includes several objects previously owned by financier and collector J. P. Morgan as well as a delightful collection of miniature porcelains from the estate of ceramics connoisseur George B. Warren.

Comprised of 15 large-scale prints, Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated) revisits the historical representations found in the 1862 publication "Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War" and overlays enlargements of woodcut plates with Kara Walker's silkscreen cutout figures in solid black silhouette. A former conservator of art objects, de Vries resurrects broken porcelain shards that would otherwise have been discarded and uses them to create new artworks that tackle both contemporary and historic issues.

For this exhibition, our painting will join about 60 others as Curran's work travels to three North American venues (including The Frick Art Museum) in this first critical retrospective of his career since his death in 1942. The exhibition is organized by the Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Memphis, and will be accompanied by a full-color catalogue.

John Singer Sargent, Gay's nearly exact contemporary, is well known for painting the sumptuous clothing and jewels of American society in his fashionable portraits.
