About Fashion Technology Course
Learn technologies in a wide scope so as to become a
global fashion modelist.
Cultivating the “design,” “application,” and “proposal” skills to create fashion intellectual property.
The Fashion Technology Course aims to foster modelists who can thrive on the global stage. To achieve this, the program offers a curriculum that develops specialized knowledge and skills in garment design and production, the application of emerging technologies, and product analysis. Under the guidance of professors and instructors with extensive professional experience in fashion planning and production, students engage in two years of research and creative practice to develop three core abilities: “design and production skills to embody garment design,” “application skills to utilize new technologies and evolve them into design,” and “proposal skills to connect technical expertise to commercialization.”
FINAL WORK
Aiming to develop design utilizing technologies for commercialization, we conduct research, trial production, verification, portfolio production, exhibition, and fashion show. Besides, we also collaborate with various corporates actively.

Approach to apparel 3DCAD
This course aims to utilize 3DCAD “CLO Enterprise” for graduate student research and work production. In 2019, a special class on 3DCAD “CLO Enterprise” was held. From the basics of 3D dressing that puts clothes on avatars to the application of actual presentations and planning, the content has been incredibly upgraded to cope with practical needs. The class then brought “Apparel 3DCAD I & II” in 2020. 2023 further marks the introduction of the knit CAD simulation “APEX (design system)” as unique and exclusive human resources development for the future of the apparel industry.

BFGU×YKK Corporation AiryString® Collaborative Research Project
We are conducting a collaborative research project with YKK Corporation as a collaboration between the industry and academia sectors. In this collaboration, our Fashion Technology Course created a work using AiryString® tapeless zippers. The work was created by researching pattern making and sewing methods with an aim at commercialization utilizing the AiryString® zipper, followed by a presentation.
AiryString is registered trademarks of YKK Corporation in Japan and other countries / regions.
BFGU × Goldwin Inc. Collaborative Pattern-making Research Project
The Fashion Technology Course are conducting a collaborative research project with Goldwin Inc. as par t of an industry-academia collaboration. In this project, students receive technical guidance in pattern making that emphasizes mobility and functionality. Based on this, they freely explore ideas to conduct research and produce works as part of their Final Research & Collection.

Curriculums Pickup
The curriculum of our fashion technology courses is classified and organized by “the ability to create”, “the ability to apply”, and “ability to communicate” so students are able to acquire knowledge, techniques, and ideas. They are able to learn technologies from a wide range of perspectives under the guidance of our academic staff from various fields.

Basic Research & Collection
Through the research activities of first setting a research topic, conducting surveys and verification, then creating a prototype, works, and portfolios, finally presenting the result, students are able to deepen their knowledge, acquire skills, and by equipped with techniques about materials, pattern making, processing, and sewing all in line with their research themes.
Final Research & Collection
Based on the theme of developing design into commercialization utilizing technologies, students create their works and portfolios by researching, prototyping, and verifying and finally presenting the results at exhibitions and fashion shows. Students are also able to acquire problem-solving skills through various independent research activities.
Production Techniques II
Learning how to make and sew haircloth pat terns through making haircloth jackets. Students learn about techniques of creating industrial pat terns taking into consideration the consistency between materials and sewing.
Draping II
Using a basic jacket as the subject, students learn how to incorporate functional ease, while also developing an understanding of garment balance and mastering precise draping techniques. In drafting, they study adjustment methods for creating first patterns suitable for industrial sewing.
