Cover coughs and sneezes
Stay home and seek care if you feel sick. Make sure you stay in contact with your
supervisors about any absences.
Attached to this email is an email that was shared with students today, providing
them with resources and guidance. If you encounter a student who shares concerns of
having symptoms or possible exposure to measles, please share this information with
them.
Thank you for helping support a healthy campus environment for our students, faculty
and staff.

January 30, 2026: Awareness: Prepare for Below-Freezing Temperatures
Toggle More Info
Good afternoon,
FGCU Emergency Management is monitoring a significant Arctic cold blast expected to
impact Southwest Florida this weekend, with the harshest impacts to be felt Saturday
evening into Monday morning. Widespread below-freezing temperatures are expected,
with “feels-like” temperatures (wind chill) likely to drop the air temperature to
the 20s or upper teens on Sunday morning.
While there are no changes in campus operations, we want to make sure our students
and employees are planning ahead for the complex range of hazards the Arctic front
could cause, including freeze conditions, icy surfaces and an increased risk of fire
or infrastructure impacts.
Advance awareness and simple preventive steps will reduce the chance of avoidable
incidents. Consider the best practices outlined in the following graphic or visit

July 31, 2025: Power Outage in Ben Hill Griffin and Howard Halls
Toggle More Info
Good morning,
FGCU is working with Florida Power & Light to address a power outage impacting Ben
Hill Griffin and Howard halls. The outage has impacted FGCU’s Data Center, causing
the campus-wide network failure earlier today.
A backup generator has enabled access to some of our network, but a full restoration
may take time. We do not have an estimate on when power will be fully restored, and
FGCU is moving affected classes to alternate locations on campus.
Instructors who are scheduled to teach today in Ben Hill Griffin Hall are being notified
of a change of location for their class. They are expected to notify their students
via their Canvas courses of where the class will meet today.
Employees in the affected buildings can consider working in other facilities on campus
or speak with a supervisor on other remote work options.
FGCU anticipates normal operations on campus Friday, August 1. However, we will share
updates if that changes.

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm last night near Siesta Key in
Sarasota County, which is roughly 90 miles north of our main campus. We are now assessing
FGCU’s campus grounds, residence halls and facilities for damage.
All activities and operations, including all events and classes, remain closed through
Friday. Residential units remain closed, and Housing will message students who live
on campus about next steps. We will provide additional information on operations for
Saturday and Sunday later today.
At this time, only activated essential personnel are allowed on campus, and we will
update you about our next steps when we have completed our review of campus. Please
note: these inspections take time.
We know that Milton’s impact has left many of our FGCU community with wind and water
intrusion damage and many are without running water and electricity.
