The Virginia Department of
Forestry
(DOF) supports local communities in their efforts to plant trees, improve urban tree cover, protect water, and more.
Urban and Community Forest Grant Programs
DOF has two grant programs that can help communities develop healthy, resilient urban tree cover.
Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant Program
The Virginia Trees for Clean Water (VTCW) Grant program encourages the creation of long-term, sustained canopy cover to improve water quality across the Commonwealth. This grant is used to fund tree planting efforts that raise public awareness of the benefits of trees and their impacts on water quality.

The Urban and Community
Forestry
U&CF
) Grant program encourages projects that promote the protection and enhancement of urban and community forest ecosystems, tree planting, the care of trees, and education on tree issues in cities, towns and communities.

Forest Pest Treatment Cost-Share Programs
Treating trees for destructive non-native insects increases the chance of preserving genetic material for tree species throughout the state. The Emerald Ash Borer and Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Treatment Cost-Share Programs can help landowners and organizations offset treatment costs of trees on their property. Emerald Ash Borer Treatment Cost-Share Program
Treating ash trees for this destructive non-native insect increases the chance of preserving genetic material of ash trees throughout the state. The Emerald Ash Borer Treatment
Cost-Share Program
can help landowners and organizations offset up to 50% of costs for treatment of ash trees through stem injections with emamectin benzoate insecticide.

Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Treatment Cost-Share Program
The Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Treatment
Cost-Share Program
can help landowners and organizations offset treatment costs for eastern and Carolina hemlock trees on their property. This program will reimburse up to 100% of imidacloprid or dinotefuran insecticide treatment costs, either performed by the landowner or a certified arborist.

Community Forest Revitalization Program
The Community Forest Revitalization program is a technical assistance program that encourages local government and citizen involvement in creating and supporting long-term and sustained community forestry projects and programs. Cities, towns, counties, tribes and universities can apply for support to map, plan and manage community forests.

Eligible Applicants
We welcome applications from state agencies, local and regional governments, tribal communities and organizations, approved nonprofit organizations, neighborhood associations, civic groups, public educational institutions (college level) or community tree volunteer groups.
