The Second Prince threatens Fan Xian by holding the safety of Fei Jie, Fan Sizhe, and the Teng family orphan hostage, forcing Fan Xian to submit to his authority. Fan Xian must navigate the dangerous Bao Yue Lou mystery, using his wit and courage to overcome the重重 challenges before him.
Meanwhile, the Imperial Examination scandal draws Fan Xian deeper into investigating the truth behind widespread corruption in the examination system, exposing the rot at the heart of Qing State's bureaucracy. The Jiangnan Ming family storyline showcases the suffering and resistance of ordinary citizens, and through his investigation, Fan Xian gradually comes to understand the true nature of power and responsibility.
Within the imperial court, Emperor Qing (Chen Daoming) continues to pull the strings from behind the scenes. His father-son relationship with Fan Xian is filled with suspicion and testing.
