Overview

The Great Wall of China is an ancient Chinese military defense project, whose construction began in the 7th century BC during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. After Qin Shi Huang unified the six states, he connected the walls of various states, forming the early version of the Ten-Thousand-Li Long Wall. The existing Great Wall was mainly built during the Ming Dynasty.

According to measurements by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the total length of the Great Wall built across various Chinese dynasties exceeds 21,196 kilometers, distributed across 15 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.
