Citation Basics
Parts of the Citation:
For a
book
or
eBook
Author(s) and/or Editor(s)
: The author of the book, or chapter within a book. Some books with chapters by individual authors will have an editor.
Title
: The name of the book, usually found in its entirety on the title page of the book.
Publisher
: The Company, Organization, or Government Agency responsible for producing the book.
Date of Publication:
The copyright date, often found on the back of the title page.
Location:
The
Page number or range of page numbers for the cited text.
For an
article
from a periodical (magazine, newspaper, or research journal):
Author(s)
: The author of the article.
Title
: The name of the article.
Title of container
: The name of the magazine, newspaper, or research journal.
Number
: The volume number & issue number of the periodical that the article appears in.
Date of Publication:
Day/Month/Year that the article was published.
Name of Database:
The name of the database where the article was found.
Location (if electronic):
DOI number (Digital Object Identifier #) or permanent URL of the article.
