An Act of the Colorado General Assembly created Washington County, named for George Washington, on February 9th, 1887. Washington County ranks 12th largest of the 64 Colorado counties with a total of 2524 square miles.  The 2015 population was 4,814 averaging over 320 acres for every man, woman and child.  There are 5 school districts in Washco: Akron, Arickaree, Lone Star, Otis and Woodlin.  Most of the land is dedicated to farming and ranching.  The county is the second highest of all of the Colorado counties in wheat production.  Akron is the county seat and the southernmost part of the county is the ‘high point’ on the great plains between Denver, Colorado and Akron, Ohio with Fremont's Butte and Rocking Chair being familiar landmarks to the locals.   Washco is a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate, and captures the honesty and determination of rural people and their families...

Designation of Voter Service and Polling Center

According to Colorado Revised Statute 1-5-102.9 (1)(c)(II), Washington County Clerk and
Recorder Annie Kuntz is asking residents of Washington County to submit written comments
about the designation of a voter service and polling center (VSPC) for the 2026 General Election.
Colorado Revised Statutes 1-5-102.9(1)(c)(II) requires the county clerk and recorder to seek
public input on the locations of voter service and polling centers for General Elections.
In designating a voter service and polling center locations, each county clerk and recorder shall
consider the following factors to address the county's needs.
A. Proximity to public transportation lines and availability of parking:
B. Geographic features, such as mountain passes, that tend to affect access and convenience:
C. Equitable distribution across the county so as to afford maximally convenient options for electors:
D. The existence and location of population centers:
E. Access for persons with disabilities:
F. Use of existing voting locations that typically serve a significant number of electors:
G. Use of public buildings that are known to electors in the county, especially to the extent that using such buildings results in cost savings compared to other potential locations:
H. When private locations are considered or designated as voter service and polling centers
in accordance with section 1-5-105(3), methods and standards to ensure the security of
voting conducted at such locations:
I. Proximity to historically under-represented communities:
J. If a proposed location was used in a previous election, the number of electors that used
the location in the previous election and the recorded wait times at the location, or the
number of electors and recorded wait times at nearby locations: and
K. The need to place voter service and polling centers in population centers that had lower
voter turnout in previous elections.
Counties with fewer than ten thousand active voters, as defined in Colorado Revised Statutes 1-
5-102.9 for General Elections, must have each county clerk and recorder assign a minimum
number of voter service and polling centers, as specified below.
Colorado Revised Statute 1-5-102.9(A) During the period designated for early voting, at
least one voter service and polling center shall be:

polling center will be available.

Clerk Kuntz has designated the Washington County Courthouse as the Early Voter Service and
Polling Center for Washington County for the following reasons:
It is the most centrally located area, benefiting all registered voters.
Accessibility is available for persons with disabilities.
It is currently used as a voting site for early voting and multiple precincts, which usually
serve a large number of voters.
Voters in the county are aware that it is a public building and use it.
It offers the greatest cost savings compared to other potential locations.
Clerk Kuntz has designated the Washington County Courthouse as an Election Day Voter Service
and Polling Center for the following reasons:
It is a centrally located area serving the largest number of registered voters in the county.
Accessibility options are available for persons with disabilities.
Voters in the county are aware that the building is a public one and use it accordingly.
It offers the greatest cost savings compared to other potential locations.
Residents can submit written comments to Annie Kuntz, Washington County Clerk and
Recorder, at 150 Ash Ave, PO Box L, Akron, Colorado 80720, from February 26, 2026, to
April 27, 2026, by 4:30 p.m.

Report Road Issues Contacts
Washington County Commissioners and the three county road supervisors have received a lot of
comment and input on county road issues this winter, as we should. There have been many phone calls
and messages relayed to the road supervisors. With all this in mind, we have an idea to simplify or
streamline some of this communication. Our county IT department has added three dedicated email
addresses for county residents to report issues; and the real easy part is you can text your road report
directly from your cell phone to the email.
It's just this easy. Take a photo of the road issue and send it with the road location (on County Road ??,
about ¼ mile east of County Road ??). Add a brief description of the road damage/issue if the photo
does not totally capture the necessary information. If you have a suggestion of how to remedy a specific
issue, please add that, too.
The road supervisors will be able to evaluate and prioritize the issues; and then schedule the necessary
repairs and materials in their work flow.
