Overview

Wuzhen is located in Tongxiang City, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, situated at the heart of the "Golden Triangle" of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. It is one of the first batch of China's historical and cultural towns, one of China's top ten charming towns, and a national 5A-level scenic spot. This千年 water town boasts a civilization history of over 7,000 years and a town-building history of more than 1,300 years, making it one of the most representative ancient towns in Jiangnan.

Wuzhen is renowned for its typical Jiangnan water town scenery, with crisscrossing waterways, dense ancient bridges, and well-preserved Ming and Qing architecture featuring white walls and black tiles. At the same time, Wuzhen is a model of the integration of tradition and modernity—it is both the permanent venue of the World Internet Conference and the birthplace of the famous Wuzhen Theatre Festival.

History

Wuzhen's history can be traced back to the Neolithic Age over 7,000 years ago. With a town-building history of more than 1,300 years, it has been a prosperous water transport commercial port since ancient times.

Wuzhen is divided into two main scenic areas: Dongzha and Xizha. Dongzha retains the original living atmosphere, while Xizha has been carefully renovated, incorporating more tourism and cultural elements. In 2001, Xizha officially opened to the public, becoming a benchmark project for the development of ancient town tourism.
