An unparalleled education
The Lamar Dodd School of Art spans North and East campuses of the University of Georgia, with 5 separate facilities for instruction and gallery spaces, including our main building neighboring the Georgia Museum of Art, a Ceramics Building, the Thomas Street Art Complex with woodshops and metalwork studios, Broad Street Studios for interior design and the contemporary art gallery the Athenaeum.
Founded in 1927, the Lamar Dodd School of Art has grown to become one of the premier art programs in the country, with a legacy in craft art disciplines like ceramics, textiles and jewelry and metalwork. In recent years, graphic design, printmaking and book arts, and scientific illustration have consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation.
The Lamar Dodd School of Art is among the few programs in the nation to offer a fully-funded MFA degree in interdisciplinary studio art with spacious studios. Moreover, our graduate programs in art history and doctoral program in art education provide ample funding.
Boasting 600 majors and minors and close to 70 graduate students across studio art, art history and art education, the Lamar Dodd School of Art welcomes students from the state of Georgia and beyond, with students from across the world pursuing a high caliber education in the arts.

UGA celebrates more than 55 years of study abroad arts instruction in Cortona, Italy at the Jack Kehoe Center. Generous funding opportunities enable many students to attend at little to no cost. Closer to home, the NYC Maymester in Design offers interior, graphic, and fabric design students an opportunity to get behind the scenes at top firms and enjoy New York City Design Week.

The Office of Global Engagement, UGA Cortona, and the Lamar Dodd School of Art join the broader Athens community in celebrating the life of Marilyn Mallard Kehoe, who passed away on March 1, 2026, in Athens. Alongside her late husband, John Daniel “Jack” Kehoe, sculptor, educator and professor emeritus at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, Marilyn played a foundational role in building and sustaining
Associate Professor Jang is one of three University of Georgia faculty members who have received the institution's highest recognition for sustained excellence in instruction, the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship.
The Lamar Dodd School of Art is thrilled to announce that scholarship applications are now open for the 2026-2027 academic year. In 2025, the School of Art awarded approximately $70,000 in merit, departmental, study abroad, and graduate scholarships, with an average range of $500 - $2,000 per award!
Costello is among 56 contemporary artists selected by Whitney Museum curators for the eighty-second edition of the Whitney Biennial—the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States.
“Beverly’s Athens” follows Buchanan's life in Athens, situating her expansive practice from this period within the local and lived conditions that shaped it.
