Legal Aid
CCH’s Law Project is the only legal aid program in Illinois exclusively focused on the needs of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Law Project
The Law Project
represents clients with varied legal needs including educational rights, public benefits, family law, housing, criminal records relief, and accessing identification documents.
Some clients are denied healthcare or removed from lifesaving benefits due to clerical errors. Others are students wrongfully barred for enrolling in their local schools or denied financial aid after becoming homeless. CCH legal staff help people who struggle, often for months or years, to access the care and support they need now.
The Law Project offers broad
community outreach
to educate people experiencing homelessness on
their rights and options
and to ensure that legal aid connects with those who need it.
Youth Futures
, a mobile legal clinic, serves students and unaccompanied youth through age 24.
We also distribute know-your-rights materials and train educators and service providers on legal issues relevant to people impacted by homelessness.
The Law Project manages a
college scholarship program
, the
Illinois Homeless Youth Handbook
, and
Streetlight Chicago
, an app and website for unstably housed young people.
