The scope of this article is the evaluation of Latin American critical edu-communication as a transformative and institutive instrument of practices that, through the integration of digital literacy with dialogic and conscientization strategies, open spaces of democratization and protection of human rights in a context characterized by strong inequalities and the digital divide. In this sense, the analysis through a qualitative methodology of a pilot case study makes it possible to offer necessary suggestions to promote digital media education strategies and the democratization of education.

formation of active citizenship can play a fundamental role because it is
most probably the only area that has a real capacity to influence actual
social realities. This paper intertwines the paths and teachings of three
personalities who have indelibly marked the discourse on critical education, peace, and social engagement: don Milani (1923-1967), Freire
(1921-1997) and Fals Borda (1925-2008). Through the analysis of their
life experiences and their humanist vision that gives education an emancipatory and critical meaning to stimulate human action and change historical reality, in this contribution, an attempt will be made to open reflection on the need to reinterpret the current globalised paradigms to
promote effective social change based on a culture of peace, solidarity
and social justice.

A qualitative approach was used to study this research problem (case study and secondary data analysis) to demonstrate that the growth of online hate speech limits the sociopolitical participation and enjoyment of fundamental rights of Latin American women social leaders and political candidates. The main results of the case study demonstrated that critical digital media education represents a possibility of intervention to counterbalance these discriminatory online practices. In this sense, the conclusions proposed Latin American educomunicación as a methodology for constructing ethical, social, and political alternatives because it promotes the development of critical collective consciousness and strengthens the effectiveness of normative actions.

of communication observed in today’s fragmented society on certain issues is not due
to the similarity of the sociocultural and historical contexts of different countries but
rather to the social problem being communicated. To do so, the subject of this article is
communication referring to migration flows—a universal phenomenon and hot topic
in international public debate—that generates, more often than not, polarisation oriented toward hostility toward migrants. To achieve this objective, with the support of the
analysis of multiple cases of media communication (analysis of language and forms of
communication), we will observe what happens in two countries (Italy and Colombia)
is entirely different. Despite its limitations due to the impossibility of generalising the
findings to all social phenomena, the article highlights how the two diametrically different countries can polarise communication towards migrants with similar hate speech
within social networks and digital platforms. This leads to the specific objective: to open
a critical debate around the dynamics that polarise communication, mainly if it takes on
negative valences.

The changing social landscape, marked by the transition from the "network society" to the "platform society," has given rise to unprecedented phenomena such as cancel culture. Rooted in social media complaints, cancel culture intersects with the dissemination of intentionally created false information, forming a complex web of dynamics. The study explores the multifaceted nature of cancel culture, its unintended consequences and the nuanced definitions surrounding it. The synthesis of erasure culture and fake news prompts critical reflections on the democratization of information, the protection of fundamental rights, and the potential risks to democracies of an unbridled online narrative. As digital networks continue to play a central role in everyday life, understanding and addressing these challenges is essential to maintaining a balanced discourse that upholds democratic values.

Its origins, therefore, can be traced back to the second half of the 19th century and its development substantially follows the socio-political development of Italy, which can be substantially divided into three historical phases (the Savoy monarchy between 1861 and 1922; the authoritarian fascist regime with totalitarian characteristics between 1922 and 1943, and the period of the democratic republic from 1946 onwards can be considered as the "rebirth" not only of Italy but also of sociology). This article aims to outline these phases through an in-depth examination of some of the Italian sociologists who, in the different phases (up to our contemporary times), have had greater relevance and influence, even outside the Italian context.

This article, being part of traditional socio-political studies relating to the problematization of the relationships and dynamics that arise between social movements and social conflict, analyses-with a qualitative methodology-the case of the Estallido Social (Social Outbreak) that was registered in Colombia over the last year and, in particular, focuses on the Mandato Ciudadano (Citizen Mandate) social movement experiment that materialized in the city of Barranquilla following the social revolts, where the demands for democracy, pluralism and bottom-up democratic participation, as well as social justice and respect for human rights, took shape. The objective of this article is to study the movement's possibilities for impact and pressure at the political-institutional level, a possibility that will be fundamental for a country that has just started an epochal change, with the victory of the forces of the left in the presidential elections, and which, therefore, will have to deal with the structuring of a new socioeconomic and political-institutional model that is capable of realizing the voice that has come from the street.

The reference is to "social space" since, by placing itself in the meso dimension of analysis, this concept succeeds in overcoming the differences between the concepts of border and boundary by encompassing both the physical/material and socio-psycho-relational aspects that in it is realized. The aim of this article is to try to answer the question of whether social living space can be considered a "state of exception" and a "state of social exception" when the perception of individuals is subjected to a continuous tension that tends to deconstruct and redefine this space. In order to achieve this, the reflections will be supported by the consequences of the "confinement" (lockdown) due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic that started at the end of 2019 and that provided different scenarios in the world (here the reference will be to Latin America and Colombia in particular).

Through a dialogue with the theoretical visions of reference, specifically the theorisations of Mouffe and Laclau, attention will be focused on the characteristics of this paradigm, which in contrast to the simplistic definitions of culture as a consumer product, as stereotyped folklore, as the opening of spaces to accommodate a spectating public, aims at the critical involvement of the social sphere in the institutional one. The move away from the categories of cultural consumer presupposes an effort in terms of greater investment in a model in which cultural capital can generate social capital, in order to implement a conceptual redefinition of the role of the public arena in the cultural dimension. With the aim of analysing the possibilities of enlargement and radicalisation of democracy in its cultural dimension, a debate that is particularly intense in the Latin American region, an initial theoretical reconstruction of this paradigm will be attempted, so that it can form the basis for future empirical research. The conclusions will show that this redefinition implies a real alternative of bottom-up participation not only in the planning phase of cultural policy, but also during the in itinere and final control phases, thus configuring the element of originality of this model.

into account what happens in different geographical areas. The present contribution focuses on Latin America and in particular on Venezuelan
caminantes, recalling their experiences and memories of the journey (departure/transit/arrival) both in the physical and emotional dimension that
brought them to Colombia. With the focus on Venezuelan caminantes, this
contribution aims to shed new light on a little studied aspect of the migration phenomenon that, however, allows to have a “reading” of the other
point of view, that is, the point of view of those who leave their country.

We will observe these complex interconnections through a qualitative methodology based on an introductory theoretical study on plural and participatory citizenship. We will then anchor it to an overview of the educational strategies implemented in Europe and Latin America based on official documents by the various bodies of these two geographical macro-areas or supranational organisms, such as UNESCO, concerning both countries. In the conclusions, this comparison will highlight coinciding interests in strengthening educational projects to promote participatory citizenship, despite differences at the national and supranational level between the two regional contexts.
