For some, recovery can be incredibly difficult. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recognizes the value traditional and recreational therapy-based models play in the healing process. During the week of March 31 – April 5, 2025, VA and DAV (Disabled American Veterans) will co-host the 39th National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic (NDVWSC), also referred to as Miracles on a Mountainside.

While deployed with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Kosovo in 2001, Corporal Adam Greathouse contracted a bacterial infection in his lungs. He went into acute respiratory distress and suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a lack of oxygen.
