New England free software supporters: we invite you to come socialize with other local free software supporters at LibrePlanet 2024.
LibrePlanet 2024
! is an excellent opportunity to connect
with like-minded locals. In the
Birds of a Feathers (BoF) section
of the
LibrePlanet wiki, you can let other free software enthusiasts from the area know
that you want to meet with them. We will happily provide you with a classroom
at our beautiful venue, the
Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT)
, or you
can simply meet up somewhere close by.
If you don't want to organize something yourself, you can participate in the
growing number of
social activities
planned throughout the weekend of
LibrePlanet 2024
. You are cordially invited to hang out at the Free
Software Foundation (FSF) office on
Friday night
and on Saturday night,
you can join us for a
walk
to meet new people and get some fresh air
after sitting through conference sessions indoors. Looking for a space for
women, nonbinary people, and all those who have been traditionally excluded
from technological and social causes? Come to the
diversity breakfast
Or you can share your feedback with the FSF and discuss with other FSF
associate members where you think the FSF should be going at the annual
FSF associate members meeting. Learn more about ways to participate in our
recent
blog post
A program that will excite you
We recently announced that
Alyssa Rosenzweig
, who spearheaded the
reverse-engineering of the M1 Apple GPU, will keynote LibrePlanet together
with
Hayley Tsukayama
and
David Wilson
Hayley Tsukayama
is associate director of legislative activism at the Electronic Frontier
Foundation (EFF) and will speak about grassroots activism, how to diversify
the free software movement, and how we can bring skills honed in the free
software advocacy community to other areas of policy.
David Wilson
created the System Crafters channel and community to teach others how to
craft their computing experience using free software tools like GNU Emacs
and GNU Guix. During his keynote, he will share his thoughts on how to
cultivate a welcoming free software community that lasts.
In addition to the keynotes,
the LibrePlanet 2024 schedule
features
more than thirty thrilling panels, talks, and workshops. The topics range
from how to
make a libre movie with only libre software
to the
threats of so-called "artificial intelligence"
and the popular
free
chess platform Lichess
