Software Development Branch (SDB)
About the SDB
The Software Development Branch (SDB) develops and maintains the operational software used by forecasters at all NCEP Service Centers to create and disseminate National Weather Service watches, warnings, and forecasts in both graphical and textual formats. The Branch also develops and maintains software to decode, interpret, and store hydrometeorological data and satellite imagery for display in NAWIPS and AWIPS II software. In addition to these tasks, SDB is responsible for software transition, support, and maintenance of the
operational website applications
hosted in the NOAA Integrated Dissemination Program (IDP) systems in College Park, MD and Boulder, CO as well as those on the NWS Internet Distribution System (NIDS) web farms.
The SDB supports NCEP in the following areas:
NAWIPS and AWIPS II National Centers software development and support
NAWIPS code migration to the AWIPS II baseline software for the NWS
Delilvery of model guidance and observational data to NOAA and other government and public customers through a variety of internet services.
