Professional Licensure Disclosures
Federal Department of Education regulations outlined in
34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v)
and the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) require institutions to disclose programs designed and advertised to lead directly to licensure or certification and to indicate whether a program’s curriculum meets or does not meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification in each state.
The Northern Illinois University programs listed in the table below lead directly to licensure or certification. Each program has been assigned one of the following disclosure statuses for each state/U.S. territory:
Does
meet requirements
Does not
meet requirements
This disclosure does not guarantee any state licensure or certification authority will approve or deny your application for licensure. Furthermore, this disclosure does not account for changes in state requirements that may have occurred after it was updated.
Current and prospective students are encouraged to contact their state’s licensure authority or review the
Northern Illinois University State Authorization Licensing and Complaint Information page
for all licensure and certification requirements pertaining to their state. These public licensure disclosures also address requirements found in 38 CFR Part 21 relating to veterans’ education benefits.
Students who wish to enroll in a program that
does not
meet requirements in the state in which they are located must complete a written attestation with their intent to seek employment in a state that
does
meet requirements upon completion of the program. The written attestation must be in the form prescribed by Northern Illinois University.
Student location is determined
by
the
permanent address listed in MyNIU
at the time of initial enrollment in any undergraduate or graduate program
or completion of the Entitlement
Worksheet Form
A prospective student who applies to enroll or a current student who, at the time of initial enrollment, enrolls in
only in-person classes
at Northern Illinois University will be considered located in Illinois for the purposes of complying with this federal regulation.
For all other prospective students, their location is the U.S. state or territory listed in
MyNIU as
the permanent address
as a result of the
Northern Illinois University admissions application or
a permanent address change
This procedure only determines location (not residency) for purposes of professional licensure as governed by 34 CFR § 668.43 and is not a factor in determining residency for tuition purposes. All other university policies that determine Illinois residency for the purpose of tuition assessment will not be superseded by this procedure.
