Hey,
I want to make a proposal to deprecate phone, mobile, website and use contact: instead see (under construction)
Wiki Proposal Deprecate phone, mobile, website and use contact: instead
Like you can see on
Synonymous tags under Ancillary tags we have tags that do the same.
I propose to only use Key:contact

The feedback that you’ve got so far has suggested that this is unlikely to succeed. Perhaps take a step back and ask yourself “why are people saying that? What do they know that I don’t?”.
Huh, I didn’t know about mobile=*. It must be nice to map in a country where the phone number explicitly indicates whether it’s a mobile or landline number. (Currently, there are just under 500 occurrences of this key in the North American Numbering Plan Area, where there isn’t a number-based distinction as far as I know. Evidently some mappers go through the trouble of calling the restaurant manager while seated at the restaurant, checking whether they whip out a phone from their pocket.)
Are you familiar with for example

listed at phone page?
Also, why contact:website would be used rather website where website cannot be used for contact?
Topic can be closed, I don’t know how to do this myself…
