The Registry of Deeds is the office that processes information as it relates to the selling and buying of real property. It is a public office open to the legal profession and general public for researching the records. In addition to deeds, mortgages, liens and attachments, there are many other types of documents pertaining to land records filed with the Registry, for example, covenants for developments, by-laws for condominium associations, etc. Plans of surveyed/subdivided property are also found in the records.
The office provides information to 37 communities in Rockingham County, regarding the sale of properties for tax purposes. There is much information available in the early volumes and anyone interested in genealogy will probably find it useful to research the records. The official records maintained at this location are dated from 1629 to present.
A visit to the Registry of Deeds during regular hours enables the researcher access to all records. Records dated 1629 to present are computerized. The computers enable the user to locate both index and image at the touch of a button. You may also order copies of any documents of interest at our copy department.
A plan index is available to research surveys, subdivisions and other plans of record. All recorded plans are available for viewing on the computers. Depending on the date, some of the older plans can only be viewed on microfilm aperture cards and require the use of an aperture card viewer. Copies of plans are available through the copy department.
