Putting Your Best Foot Forward: Social Media Tips for Scholarship Applicants
Scholarships can make a meaningful difference in helping you manage the cost of your
education. As more scholarship providers use online tools in their review process,
it is important to be mindful of how your public online presence may reflect who you
are and what matters to you.
The tips below are meant to help you feel confident, prepared, and informed as you
apply.
Be Honest and Authentic
Always complete your scholarship application honestly and thoughtfully. Some providers
may review publicly available information online to learn more about applicants. Being
consistent across your application and your online presence helps build trust and
shows integrity.
Showcase Your Strengths
Your social media presence can be a positive extension of your story. Posts that reflect
your interests, goals, achievements, and community involvement can highlight your
strengths and personality. Scholarship providers often appreciate seeing genuine examples
of creativity, leadership, and communication.
Take Time to Review Your Profiles
Before applying, it is a promising idea to review your public profiles and remove
content that could be misunderstood or reflect poorly on you. Even small updates—like
adjusting privacy settings or removing outdated posts—can help ensure your online
presence represents you in the best light.
