SECORE's restoration approach
Our holistic coral reef restoration
strategy integrates reef research, cutting-edge technology, and comprehensive mentorships with customized local implementation. Through our vast international partner network, we drive successful coral reef restoration efforts with measurable, trans-regional impact.
Restoration research
We research coral life cycles, optimal breeding conditions for various species, and strategies to enhance the resilience and survival of young corals.
Technological solutions
To meet the challenges of the coral crisis, developing technologies to enable the scaling-up of coral reef restoration is a key aspect.
Large-scale Implementation
Within our
Training and Capacity Building Program
we accompany our partners on their journey to a sustainable restoration on an impactful scale.
What is a reef - and why do corals need our help?
Corals are ecosystem engineers creating complex reef structures that support marine biodiversity. They are one of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems - yet today, corals around the globe are dying at an alarming rate.

Breeding corals
The first Coral Breeding Reference Sheets are finally available, consolidating information on four key coral species (
Acropora palmata, Orbicella faveolata, Diploria labyrinthiformis, Porites porites
). They are a valuable resource for all Coral Seeding practitioners.
More about restoration research
Healthy coral offspring
A peer-reviewed study shows that all our efforts are worthwhile: during the devastating heatwave in the Caribbean in 2023, our young, bred corals on the reef, stayed healthy while most of the remaining wild corals bleached and many died in the aftermath.

Joining forces
Within this new US$1.38 million CORDAP funded restoration project we will be working on optimizing collection of coral spawn, assisted fertilization, mass coral larvae rearing, coral settlement, and improving survival of corals after seeding them on the reef together with FUNDEMAR and Reef Renewal Bonaire.
