The SLO Swim Center, open year-round, features an outdoor 50-meter by 25-yard Main Pool and Therapy/Tot Pool. With temperature controls keeping the Main Pool water between 78 and 82 degrees and the Therapy/Tot Pool between 88 and 92 degrees.

2026 Pool Closures
All guests who enter the SLO Swim Center during public swim hours are required to pay the entry fee or have a current swim pass. This applies to guests that will be swimming or those accompanying swimmers with the intention of staying on the deck and not entering the water.

Refunds, Withdrawals, and Credits
Session/Visit Entry:
Refunds will only be issued in the event the facility is closed within the first 10 minutes of admission. A swim pass will be issued in lieu of a refund in the event that more than 10 minutes have elapsed since entry into the facility.
Passes:
The SLO Swim Center will only offer a refund for passes if the pass has not been used previously. Refunds for passes cannot be prorated for the time/amount remaining on the unused portion of the pass.
Classes or Courses:
Refunds are not available for Swim Lessons/Classes/Courses, however credits may be provided if notified 48 hours before the first lesson starts. If you need to cancel within 48 hours of the first lesson start time, you will receive 75% of the program cost credited to your account. Classes missed for vacation, injury, illness or any other individual reason cannot be made up and are not eligible for credits or refunds.

Standard Swim Activities
Lap Swimming
Monday – Sunday
The lap swim program may be utilized for several types of aquatics activities including swimming, walking, physical wellness, aqua jogging, triathlon training, or working one-on-one with children.
AM Lap Swim is configured in the 50-meter length on Monday – Friday. Afternoon and PM Lap Swim is configured in the 25-yard length. When there are more than 2 guests in a lane, please use a circle swimming pattern to exercise.
Therapy Pool
The therapy pool may be utilized for several types of aquatics activities including recreational swimming, walking, physical wellness, or working one-on-one with children.
The deep portion of the therapy pool is reserved for adult use only from 11:30 a.m. – 1:20 p.m.
On Tuesday and Thursday from 12:40 – 1:30 p.m., an Aqua Pilates class will be held in the deep section of the therapy pool.
Family Recreational Swim
Family Recreational Swimming allows for swimming, diving, or playing and makes for a great opportunity to have a family outing or a party. The main pool, therapy pool, the diving boards are available for use and a few lanes will be open for adult lap swimmers.
Evening Family Rec Swim will be held in the therapy pool and may be utilized for several types of aquatics activities.
Aqua Aerobics
Aqua Aerobics is a guided workout designed to combine aerobic conditioning with strength training, muscular endurance, and flexibility. The class structure and routine maybe adapted to individual needs with the assistance of the instructors.
Aqua Pilates
Aqua Pilates is an introduction to core-centered (abdominal muscles and Lower back) poses and positions that help with posture, balance, and flexibility. All the movements are based on the principles of concentration, control, fluid movements, precise breathing, and strengthening of the torso. Participants are led through a progressive routine that continues to challenge them as they increase their strength and flexibility.
The 12:40 p.m. class is conducted in the deep end of the therapy pool.
Deep Water Exercise
Deep Water Exercise is a high energy, no impact, fun fitness class in which you perform a range of aerobic moves. The class will emphasize on cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, range of motion, and core strengthening.
The 12:40 p.m. class is conducted in the deep end of the main pool.
Warm Water Exercise
Warm Water Exercise is held in the therapy pool. Participants are led through a series of exercises designed to increase range of motion and flexibility. This class is great for adults on any age, including recovering injuries and/or arthritic conditions who can participate in a fitness program without assistance.
Participants will need to purchase a Warm Water Exercise 10 visit pass for $61.75. Warm Water Exercise passes must be purchased during open office hours.

General SLO Swim Center Pool & Facility Rules
For guest safety, everyone must obey the rules and direction of aquatic facility staff.
No guest may enter the water without a SLO Swim Center Lifeguard on duty.
Children over the age of 4 must use the appropriate bathhouse or see SLO Swim Center facility staff for alternative arrangements.
All guests who enter the SLO Swim Center during public swim hours are required to pay the entrance fee or have a current swim pass.
Children under the age of 10 must be actively supervised by an adult 18 years of age or older. All non-independent or non-swimming children must be within arm’s reach of an adult that is 18 years of age or older. The expected adult to child supervision ratio is 1:2.
Swim diapers are required for all diapered guests.
Proper swim attire is required for those entering the pool. Cutoff jeans, t-shirts, or loose clothing are prohibited. Please speak to Aquatic Staff for clarification.
Only U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets are permitted. No other floatation devices are permitted at the SLO Swim Center.
The following are not permitted at the SLO Swim Center:
Running on the pool deck
Guests using breath holding techniques
Horseplay, sitting on shoulders, or throwing of guests
Hanging, sliding, or diving from ladders, stairs, or pool lane lines
Backwards jumps, entries, or flips into the water
Animals or pets with the exception of service animals
Animals entering the water at any time
Being under the influence and/or possession of drugs, alcohol, or smoking or smokeless tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes or vaporizers
Items or actions deemed dangerous to guest or staff safety
Glass containers, gum, and sunflower seeds
Metal hair clips or pins
Oil-based tanning products
Open sore(s) and/or cut(s)
Abusive language or profanity
Photography, videos, or visible cell phones in the men’s or women’s changing rooms
Excessive displays of public affection
Fitness equipment such as masks, fins, snorkels, bar bells, pool buoys, and pool noodles are allowed only if used for their intended purpose and may be used for lap swimming or fitness exercise. Fins and snorkels are not permitted in the small pool or recreation swim areas of the Olympic pool.
Diving is permitted in designated areas only. The diving boards are open during supervised diving programs and recreational swim.
The SLO Swim Center may be closed without notice at the discretion of the City of San Luis Obispo.
The City of San Luis Obispo and its staff are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items.
The City reserves the right to refuse and/or revoke admittance as a safety precaution to protect all patrons and City staff.
Guests currently suffering from active diarrhea or who have had diarrhea within the previous 14 days should not enter the pool water.

What is the temperature of the Pool? What are the dimensions?
The Sinsheimer Pool is kept at 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the Therapy Pool at 88F. The main pool is 50 meters long and 25 yards wide. It takes 9 laps lengthwise to complete a half mile or 18 laps for a mile.
How can I get a reduced fee for childcare or swim classes?
We have limited fee reduction credits, based on need, available on a first-come, first-served basis. We start accepting applications for fee credits May 1 for the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1 through June 30. Applications can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation Office.
