Smile
The SysteMs & InteLligEnce (SMILE) Laboratory explores fundamental theories and innovative algorithms to improve the efficiency, resilience, scalability and safety of dynamic systems and networks. Of particular interest are problems that benefit from the integration of system control and data analysis. Our research covers system modelling, control, uncertainty quantification, data analysis, distributed computing and machine learning. Current research at SMILE Lab focuses on data-driven decision-making for large-scale dynamic systems, unmanned aerial systems, airborne computing, air traffic flow management, data analysis and complex information systems.

Announcements
Multiple funded M.S. and Ph.D. student positions are available in the SMILE laboratory. Self-motivated students with interest in control systems, optimization, data analysis, distributed computing, ground robots or unmanned aerial vehicles are encouraged to apply. Candidates with strong theoretical background, rich hands-on experience and/or programming skills are highly considered. Research experience in aforementioned areas is a great plus. The successful Ph.D. candidates will join the joint doctorate program of Electrical and Computer Engineering departments at UC San Diego and San Diego State University.
