The Bachelor of Science in Education in
Special Education
prepares students to teach children and youth with disabilities who receive special education services in schools. Students in the program work closely with faculty who have extensive experience working with children and youth with disabilities, and participate in both rigorous, practical coursework and applied classroom experiences. Those who successfully complete the program and receive a passing score on the appropriate Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) test(s) will be certified to teach in one of three special education areas. Graduates go on to teach in charter, public, private and specialized school settings.

Majors Excel After Graduation
SHANNON SWANSON '20
Special Education Teacher (IRR/Resource) - Fulton County Schools
"The degree I earned helped me to become a self-contained intellectual disability teacher. I have taught 9th grade intellectual disabilities, inter-related earth science (also known as resource: small group/co-taught), and I am now the transition teacher at my high school. My degree prepared me for co-teaching, differentiating between disabilities, and teaching students one-on-one vs. a whole group setting...
Also, taking the Intro to Applied Behavior Analysis class really helped me my first semester teaching; I had to conduct a functional behavior assessment (FBA) on a student and assist with writing a behavior intervention plan (BIP)."
