In the spring of 2005, the St. Charles Advisory Board established The Distinguished Alumnus Award to recognize alumni who have honored St. Charles Preparatory School by their outstanding professional achievements, volunteer activities, and community-organization advocacy. These alumni have shared their affection for St. Charles Preparatory School and its community, and been shining examples of high moral and ethical standards. In the Old Testament Book of Sirach, this wise man of God wrote in praise of Israel’s great ancestors. He spoke of men, who through achievements and beneficial social activities, had earned the praise of the people of God. In Chapter 44, verse 1, he says: “Let us now sing praises of famous men, our ancestors in their generations.” St. Charles has specifically chosen the Mass of Thanksgiving as the forum at which to honor these men because it enables the school to publicly acknowledge their achievements and to present them as visible role models for our student body to emulate.
