Mabee Learning Commons’ mission is to design and develop resources to help every student, staff and faculty member achieve their full potential while at MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Our student success programs help students make a smooth transition into college. The Academic Success Center (ASC) is MNU’s primary academic resource for MNU students needing academic support
The Mabee Library provides visitors with digital materials, print materials, and study zones for academic success.
The library team offers research assistance and technology support on a drop-in and/or appointment basis. Please come by for a visit!

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Connections Fair: The Connections Fair is hosted as a part of Welcome Week in the fall semester during the first week of classes.

Exam & Testing Services
Accommodations/Testing The Coordinator for Student Academic Success provides accommodations for students who have a disability and manages the Testing Center. A disability may include a medical condition, mental health challenge, physical disability, learning disability or a short-term condition related to an accident or illness. Accommodations are meant to remove barriers to learning or to accessing the curriculum. Significant alterations to the curriculum or course delivery are not considered reasonable accommodations. Students who want to take CLEP exam or other standard exams such as DSST, Accuplacer, or ATI exams, should contact the Testing Center at

ACT Exam: The ACT is administered on campus during freshman orientation.
CLEP and DSST Exams: We offer CLEP and DSST exams on demand in the Academic Support Center, allowing MNU students to earn credit for their respective degrees by passing the appropriate exam.
CLEP Exam Program
The CLEP exam allows MNU students to earn credit in many General Education and elective courses for their respective degrees by simply passing the appropriate test.
At MNU there are a few prerequisite courses for which you have the option to demonstrate proficiency by passing a
CLEP exam
. Categories for

include History & Social Sciences, Composition & Literature, Science & Mathematics, Business, World Languages.
Eligible courses for CLEP exam exemption include Lifespan Development, College Algebra, English Composition I, Chemistry and Biology. Our admissions staff can work with you if you’d like to utilize a CLEP exam option.

You may take CLEP tests anywhere the test is administered—not just at MNU. You’ll just need to enter MNU as the destination for your results. MNU’s CLEP code is 6437. CLEP results take a few weeks to be sent.

Find out the CLEP policy for your academic area
Each academic area at MidAmerica Nazarene University sets its own policy regarding which CLEP exams it will grant credit for and how many credits it will award. Contact your academic adviser to learn more about the CLEP policy in your academic area at MNU.
Create a CLEP account
You can manage your personal account through the CLEP registration portal. The registration platform will allow you to register for a CLEP exam 24/7, manage your personal information any time prior to taking the exam, select your score recipient institution, and purchase study materials.

Complete all required fields
MNU’s CLEP location number is 6437
Submit the $85 payment for each exam
Print the payment receipt.
You will not be allowed to test without a copy of the receipt.
For test preparation go to the Next Steps section and click “Try a practice test” and “Get study materials”.
Schedule your test
After you register for an exam, it is important that you contact the test center at least 2 days in advance of the test date to schedule your appointment. Registering for an exam provides you with a payment receipt and a Ticket ID.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
If you have a learning or physical disability that would prevent you from taking a CLEP exam under standard conditions, you may request accommodations from the Academic Success Center. Contact us 5 days in advance of your exam date to make the necessary arrangements, submit documentation and receive approval of accommodations.
DSST Exam Program
The DSST exam allows you to earn credit in many General Education and elective courses for their respective degrees by simply passing the appropriate test, saving you time and money. At MNU there are a few prerequisite courses for which you have the option to demonstrate proficiency by passing a DSST exam.

website to see which exams are available. Exam rules and preparation material are also available on the website.
Verify with your academic advisor that the exam you plan to take is accepted at MNU.
Schedule your exam at the Academic Success Center at least 2 days before the day you would like to test.
Arrive on time for testing at the Academic Success Center and provide your government issued photo ID.
Pay the $80 exam fee directly to DSST, when you log in to take the exam. This must be paid by credit or debit card.

Register with DSST and indicate where you want your official score report to be sent. This is also done when you log in to take the exam. The MNU DSST location ID number is 8801.

Textbooks and Course Materials

to see all books and materials. Read all the disclaimers and class notes on the list. If a class has EasyText, either eBook or Courseware, a note will be displayed as well.
All books not available as EasyText would be the student’s responsibility to acquired.
Disclosures for the Online Bookstore
We are committed to making textbooks affordable for students. MNU Textbooks helps students find their booklist, required, optional or recommended items for their courses, and offers price comparisons from major retailers, saving time and money by ordering online.
MNU does not have an online or physical bookstore on campus. All textbook listing and purchasing are done online with third party retailers.
MNU Textbooks
is only an accessibility tool to streamline the process of obtaining all materials. Students can purchase course materials from any retailer. MNU does not process credit card transactions, issue refunds, or assist with returns. Purchasing and shipping is a transaction between the student and the retailer, MNU holds no responsibilities in that process.

What is EasyText?
EasyText is MNU’s name for the Inclusive Access textbook program, giving students discounted first-day access to digital course materials through the classroom Moodle page. EasyText is designed to reduce student costs, ensure first day of class access, and improve student outcomes.
An EasyText book is a required digital book, either eBook or courseware, and accessible through Moodle and/or Bookshelf.
EasyText can be up to 80% cheaper than new print and up to 50% cheaper than eBook from the publishers.
EasyText is embedded in the class fee and charged to the student’s account.
If the course material is found elsewhere for cheaper, the student could “opt-out”
Courseware is an interactive item such as Connect, Access, MindTap, MyLabs, Achieve, Revel, InQuizitive, Mastering, etc. integrated with Moodle.
What is Bookshelf?
Bookshelf is the student’s electronic library provided by VitalSource. All EasyText books, rental or perpetual, will be store in it.
Bookshelf uses MNU’s Moodle username and password (@mnu.edu)
Once a student purchases a book, they can open it online, or choose to download it on the mobile app.
What is Opt-Out?
If students don’t want EasyText books they have the option to “Opt-Out” manually for each one of them.
Always double-check with the instructor before opting out of EasyText since these are required course materials.
Students can opt out of your textbooks only at the beginning of the term. Check the opt-out date from the emails, and Moodle link.
Students will begin receiving emails on their email (mnu.edu) two weeks prior to the start of each class.
If the student chooses to opt-out of these materials their account will be refunded, and the student will be responsible for acquiring the material from another source.
Courseware is required for class assignments and progress; students won’t pass the class without it. Therefore, the option to “opt-out” is to turn off for those items.
What is ISBN?
All books have an ID number called ISBN. It is a 10 or 13-digit number. Always double-check the ISBN number with the requested book from the instructor before purchasing.
ISBN numbers change for digital and print items. It can be the same book with two different numbers because of their format.
Book Vouchers are not available to be used with
MNU Textbooks
at  this time.

Neer Locker
The Neer Locker is a student-run resource area (hygiene, clothing, dorm supplies, food) organized by the Enactus Club. Every MNU student has 5 points per week to use. Located in Mabee Library.
