Rowan University accepts the results of certain external assessment agencies as transfer credits. Some of the most common external exams include Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB). Rowan University also follows the
American Council on Education’s "National Guide to Educational Credit for Non-Collegiate Programs."

Advanced Placement (AP)
Rowan awards credit to students through the Advanced Placement (AP) Program. A minimum score of 3 is required for all awards: some credit awards have higher requirements. All departments reserve the right to reevaluate the content of exams and to change the assignment of credit and course equivalences.

Before sending scores to Rowan University, students should be aware that:
AP scores must be sent directly from the College Board.
Final credit approval may vary by department.
An AP exam score must meet Rowan University’s minimum requirement at the time the test was taken. Otherwise, the course will not be transferable.
AP credits that are accepted are recorded as transfer credit (T-grade) on Rowan University's records.
AP credits count for total number of credits earned toward graduation, but are not into a student’s GPA.
Students can only receive AP credit if they have not taken an equivalent Rowan University course. If a student later earns credit for an equivalent course, the AP exam will be removed from their records. Check with your advisor for more information.
If a student has received AP credit at another institution, this credit will be reevaluated according to the Rowan University credit guidelines.
Please note that these guidelines represent a general outline of AP credit. In all cases, credit awards are subject to ongoing departmental reevaluation.
College Level Exam Program (CLEP)
Students can take College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams at any time. CLEP credit allows students to accumulate credit toward their degrees by demonstrating knowledge gained independently. Students also save time and money by starting their studies at a higher level.

CLEP scores must be sent directly from the College Board.
Course equivalencies and credits accepted are evaluated by each department and may vary.
CLEP exams may not duplicate Rowan University coursework. If a student takes a CLEP exam and later takes an equivalent Rowan University course, the CLEP exam will be removed from their records.
Some credit awards, for non-general examinations, begin at the 50th percentile.
If a student has received CLEP credit at another institution, this credit will be reevaluated according to the Rowan University CLEP credit guidelines.
International Baccalaureate
Rowan awards credit to students through the International Baccalaureate Program. A minimum scores listed on the chart below are required for all awards: some credit awards have higher requirements. All departments reserve the right to reevaluate the content of exams and to change the assignment of credit and course equivalences.

The transfer credit charts include transfer courses and the equivalent Rowan University course(s). A minimum grade of D- in a course is required to receive transfer credit, however some majors do require minimum grade requirements. Grades earned in transferred courses will not be used in calculating your cumulative average at Rowan University, but will count towards degree requirements that fulfill graduation requirements. For information on how your courses fit into your degree requirements, please consult with your advisor.

reviewing the program guide for your major and program requirements that you believe may be satisfied by your prior learning and
reviewing course descriptions of Rowan courses in the
catalog
to help identify specific courses that you believe your prior learning satisfies.
Send an email to
registrar-transfercredits@rowan.edu
with:
the names of the Rowan courses for which you would like to be evaluated and
the applicable course description, course syllabi and program information from the source of the prior learning.
Once we receive the courses and supporting documentation back from you, our team will work with academic faculty to evaluate your prior learning.
