Transitional Kindergarten is a developmental, hands on instructional program designed to build a strong foundation for early learning. It follows the Common Core Standards with the expectation that students will demonstrate mastery of these standards by the end of the school year.
Teachers promote meaningful connections across subject matter and involve students in integrated educational experiences. Student progress is monitored through ongoing assessments conducted throughout the year.
TK serves as the first year of a two-year Kindergarten program. Upon completion of TK, students promote to Kindergarten. TK helps prepare students for educational success in Kindergarten and beyond.
TK hours are the same as Kindergarten.
Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Transitional Kindergarten (TK) will be available at all 17 of CVUSD's elementary schools and is available through the District's SHINE Homeschool program.
