KCC K-Pop On Stage – Kat & Jiyaad, Seth, DJ Boujeena
Start your weekend with a high-energy K-pop takeover at the Korean Cultural Centre! This special edition of KCC K-Pop On Stage brings together live performances by Kat & Jiyaad and Seth, followed by a K-pop DJ set from DJ Boujeena and a crowd-favourite random dance session to keep the energy going. Expect an evening of powerful choreography, great music, and a vibrant atmosphere. DJ Boujeena Boujeena is a genre-blending DJ and co-founder of the Afrobeats-focused event, Gbedu Nights. Her sound moves seamlessly between Afrobeats, Gqom and K-pop, creating high-energy sets that bridge cultures and connect audiences. She has performed internationally and at major festivals including Basha Uhuru and Homecoming Africa, and placed third in the HCE Artist on The Rise competition. She has also headlined both Pretoria and Johannesburg editions of K-pop and BTS-themed events. With standout performances at Tshwanefontein and Soundset Sunday, Boujeena continues to establish herself as one of South Africa’s most exciting DJs to watch. Kat & Jiyaad This powerhouse duo won World of Dance Duo South Africa and took first place at Dance Star, earning a Best Choreography nomination. They’ve taught in the United States and collaborated with acclaimed choreographers Keone & Mari (BTS, RIIZE), bringing their storytelling to major stages like the Ubuntu x Korean Culture Festival and Mahindra Fusion Fest at SunBet Arena. They’ve also partnered with global brands including Sprite, Comedy Central, Red Bull, and G-Star RAW, continuing to push culture forward through movement. Seth Seth is known for his charismatic stage presence, blending strong personality with powerful movement. In just six years of dancing, he has already competed internationally, placing first in all his sections and earning four championship titles with the World Lyrical Dance Federation. He has performed at the Afrikaans concert Kroné and walked the runway for L’Oréal. He is set to host a technical demonstration and dance workshop in Cape Town next month, with a potential performance opportunity in Paris on the horizon. Immerse yourself in the graceful art of Seoye (서예, traditional Korean brush calligraphy), where brush, ink, and paper come together to transform writing into visual expression.  This eight-session course introduces basic techniques, brush control, and the structure of Hangeul (the Korean alphabet), while exploring the cultural and artistic  foundations of the practice. Each session builds your skills while deepening your appreciation for this timeless craft. Whether you're completely new or already curious about calligraphy,  this hands-on journey offers a peaceful and inspiring way to connect with Korean culture. Fire on K-Noodle – 한-남아공 라면경연대회
Get ready to turn up the heat with a creative twist on Korean noodles! In this special K-Noodle Competition hosted by the King Sejong Institute at the Korean Cultural Centre, participants are invited to transform Korean ramyeon (instant noodles) into something uniquely their own. By adding garnishes and ingredients inspired by South African landscapes, culture, and flavours, students will create dishes that tell a story of connection between Korea and South Africa. Join us at the Korean Cultural Centre for a special day exploring the beauty of Hanbok, Korea’s traditional clothing, and experiencing hands-on craft workshops. Begin with an engaging lecture tracing Hanbok’s history, symbolism, and its on-screen life in Korean dramas and media. In the afternoon, shift from insight to practice: craft a Gwi-Jumeoni finished with Maedeup knots and explore Minhwa, Korea’s folk-art tradition of auspicious motifs. A compact, hands-on day that ties fashion, craft, and story together. Don’t miss the chance to explore Korea’s artistry, from timeless fashion to meaningful crafts. Gwi-Jumeoni with Maedeup (Traditional Korean pouch with knots) Gwi-Jumeoni is a traditional Korean pouch, often carried with Hanbok. Made from colourful fabric and tied with a drawstring, it once held small items or charms. Its drawstring is often finished with Maedeup, the Korean knots known for its clean, balanced form. Today, it symbolizes good fortune and beauty, adding elegance to traditional attire. Minhwa painting (Korean folk art) Minhwa are Korean folk paintings created by everyday people. They often show symbols of good fortune, happiness, and protection. These artworks were used to decorate homes and express people’s hopes and beliefs.
