Synopsis
Yangshuo is located in Guilin, Guangxi, renowned for the karst landscape along the most scenic section of the Li River, making it one of China's most iconic destinations for picturesque mountain and water scenery.
Overview
Yangshuo County is located in Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and is one of China's most famous tourist destinations. "Guilin's landscape is the finest under heaven, but Yangshuo's is the finest in Guilin" — this praise, passed down for a thousand years, speaks to the unparalleled beauty of Yangshuo's scenery.
The 83-kilometer stretch of the Li River from Guilin to Yangshuo represents the essence of the Li River landscape. It concentrates the finest features of Guilin's scenery and is renowned both domestically and internationally for its "verdant peaks, clear waters, fantastic caves, and beautiful stones." It is the most typical and richly developed area of karst (limestone) topography.
Natural Landscape
The Li River scenery is hailed as a "Hundred-Mile Gallery." The river winds like a green silk ribbon among countless peaks, with strange karst formations lining its banks and emerald waters meandering through. Famous scenic spots along the way include Nine Bulls and Three Continents, Yellow Cow Gorge, Wangfu (Gazing Husband) Fairy Stone, Crown Cave, and Nine-Horse Fresco Hill.
Yellow Cloth Shoal Reflection is the highlight within the highlights of the Li River, located within the territory of Xingping Ancient Town. The mirror-like river surface perfectly reflects the verdant peaks, creating a breathtaking scene. The landscape pattern on the back of the 20-yuan RMB note is based on this very view, earning it the title "China's most beautiful landscape calling card."
The Yulong River is famous for its "verdant mountains, clear waters, emerald bamboo, unique bridges, and picturesque villages," representing the best of Yangshuo's scenery. Lined with bamboo, surrounded by green waters, and dotted with villages along its banks, it resembles a traditional Chinese ink painting.
