Volunteer Information
Becoming a volunteer is an exciting and engaging way to learn more about water quality and to help protect rivers and streams in your community.
How to join
Utah Water Watch
Utah Water Watch (UWW) is a statewide, public water quality monitoring program open to volunteers of all ages.
We engage volunteers in
water quality
education and data collection by providing the knowledge, training, and resources needed to examine the health of Utah’s lakes and streams. If you love spending time outdoors and are passionate about improving the bodies of water in your area, volunteering with Utah Water Watch is the way to start!
UWW Registration Form
After filling out the form, a UWW coordinator will contact you about opportunities to attend a training as they become available.
You will receive an email from Utah Water Watch a few days before the event with a link to join on the date of your training. Once you attend a training, you will receive a certificate and be a part of UWW!
Work with a coordinator to choose a site to monitor. Explore our list of
pre-approved sites
and choose one, or let us know a water body that you would like to monitor at if we do not have an existing site.
Once you've been trained and have selected your site, we will ship you a water quality monitoring kit. When you get your supplies, you are ready to start monitoring Utah's waters!
How to join
Utah HAB Squad
The Utah HAB Squad collects important real-time data on the status of harmful algal blooms (HABs) across the state during recreation season. Volunteers make frequent (weekly or every other week) observations at priority lake and stream sites to collect data on where and when HABs are showing up. We work directly with the Utah Division of Water Quality to identify priority sites and notify them when blooms are present, so the state can issue health advisories to the public.

After filling out the form, a UWW coordinator will contact you about completing the training and choosing a site.
Head to the
HAB Field Observations
page and watch the training video.
Once you complete the video training, please
email us
to confirm your monitoring site choice and volunteer status.

You will then receive your member card and be a part of the Utah HAB Squad! We're so happy to have you aboard and helping to monitor Utah's waters and protect public health from HABs.
Utah Water Watch Supplies
Are you in need of replacement supplies? We prefer to restock volunteers at the start of the monitoring year and send out a request for needs at that time. However, feel free to fill out our supply re-order form and we will get in contact with you!
