- 2007-05-10: The Panel The role of multimedia metadata standards in a (Semantic) Web 3.0 took place during the WWW 2007 conference.
- 2007-05-08: Raphaël Troncy presented the XG activity during the W3C Advisory Committee Meeting.
- 2007-02-12: The Panel submitted by Susanne Boll and Raphaël Troncy on behalf of the XG to the WWW 2007 conference, entitled The role of multimedia metadata standards in a (Semantic) Web 3.0 has been accepted!
- 2007-02-09: Raphaël Troncy and Jeff Z. Pan presented the XG activity to the Semantic Web Coordination Group.
- 2006-12-09: The XG had his second face-to-face meeting on Friday 8th and Saturday 10th of December. Minutes and work done during this face to face are available in the Meetings.
- 2006-11-29: Jeff Z. Pan presented the Incubator Group during the VIE Multimedia Standards Workshop in the 2nd Institution of Engineering and Technology Multimedia Conference 2006.

- 2006-09-15: The XG has released a new version of the Image Annotation on the Semantic Web. This document is under review and aims to be the first XG Report of this group.
- 2006-09-14: Jeff Z. Pan presented the Incubator Group during the ICANN 2006 Conference.
- 2006-07-18: The XG has now a WIKI ! See the Wiki Pages.
- 2006-07-12: The XG had his first official face-to-face meeting on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th of July. Minutes and work done during this face to face are available in the Meetings.
- 2006-06-08: The XG has decided to have its bi-weekly teleconferences on Thursdays, between 17:00 and 18:00 UTC (winter time). These teleconferences are intended to be only for Incubator Group members and other invited parties. See the forthcoming meetings.
- 2006-05-22: The XG will have an informal face-to-face kick-off meeting, Monday 22nd of May, in Edinburgh during the WWW Conference. More precisely, we invite all interested participants to join the round table discussion at the end of the SWAMM Workshop day, from 16:00 to 17:30 and to join the dinner afterwards.
- 2006-05-02: The SWBPD WG's Multimedia Task Force is finishing work on their editor's draft on Image Annotation. This is work done in another group, but all members of this XG are invited to provide comments
- 2006-04-25: Multimedia Semantics XG launched (Call for Participation, Member-only)

This document gives an overview on the state-of-the-art of multimedia metadata formats. The focus is on their usability within the Semantic Web, in particular formalizations of these existing vocabularies.

This document will use a bottom-up approach to provide a simple extensible framework to improve interoperability of applications related to some key use cases discussed in the XG.

MPEG-7 and the Semantic
Web.
This document targets the developers and researchers in multimedia semantics. It describes the four current OWL/RDF proposals of MPEG-7, as well as a comparison of the different modeling approaches in the context of practical applications. Any harmonizations aiming at providing a single ontology of MPEG-7 will not be done in the framework of this XG.
