St. Paul urges us to “encourage one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with hearts full of thankfulness to God” (Colossians 3:16).  In this three-part webinar series, we will examine each of these categories through the lenses of useful repertory for children’s choirs, rehearsal strategies and pedagogy, and liturgical use at children’s liturgies and school Masses. This first webinar explores hymns as a foundational element of children’s choir participation in the liturgy. Using Data to Improve Schools: Steps in Identifying & Completing a Data-Based Project
Using data effectively can lead to improvements in student and school performance. However, it can be difficult for school leaders to swim through the oceans of available data and find the right data for a particular purpose. This webinar will look at data in context. Specifically, it will outline the necessary conditions for a successful data-based project, review key data properties to consider when planning a data-based project, and how to select the right data for a given purpose.  A sample data-based project completed by a large urban school will be used to illustrate the issues raised in the webinar.

Understanding the New Federal Scholarship Tax Credit
A new Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC) program will provide a permanent federal income tax credit designed to encourage private donations that support K–12 students through nonprofit scholarship granting organizations (SGOs). Donors to SGOs will be able to claim up to a $1,700 credit against federal income taxes due. Student recipients will be able to use scholarship funds for qualified educational expenses that include tuition, fees, tutoring, curriculum materials, special needs services, transportation, and computer technology. Sr. Dale McDonald, PBVM, Ph.D., will discuss creating SGOs and encouraging SGO donations, preparing schools/parishes to advocate for FSTC, creating parent awareness of SGOs, and preparing schools and families to accept FSTC students.

Beyond the Headlines: Student Learning Growth in Independent Schools Nationally and Beyond
In the years following the pandemic, the dominant narrative of “learning loss” has shaped national discourse—but how well does that story reflect the experiences of students in independent schools, both nationally and in a subset of NCEA schools? In this session, we’ll explore findings from our latest research on student learning growth, drawn from five years of the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) member achievement data across National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and NCEA schools. By examining achievement before and after COVID, we’ll challenge surface-level interpretations and offer a more nuanced understanding of how students are growing within independent and Catholic school environments. Weaving in research on student well-being, we will also consider its impact on post-pandemic learning growth.

In 2024, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Subcommittee on the Catechism formally approved the Handbook on the Catechetical Accompaniment Process. This document, which replaces the former USCCB Conformity Protocol for religious education curricula, outlines goals for religious education programs in both Catholic schools and parishes. 2024 Summer Series: Biomimicry: Inspired by God's Creation
God is a great engineer!  Let's study his creation! Scientists, engineers and product designers sometimes model everyday things after animal structures. This imitation of nature is called biomimetics or biomimicry.  Animals use different structures for different things.  An example of something in nature (a plant) used to help create an everyday object is a prickly burdock bur getting stuck on fur.  The idea for Velcro came from studying this plant.  There are many animals that scientists could study to help them mimic an animal or plant structure to help them create or improve an everyday item.  God has given us solutions to problems and the answers are all around us. I will discuss the importance of studying God's creation and how we can share this passion with our students.  Students will learn how engineers study God's creation to solve problems and use the engineering process (STEM) to create a solution.

Summertime: A Space for Reflective Perspective
Summer is a time to put on the brakes and hit the skids, right? Well…not entirely. For educators, this is a time to reflect, prepare and plan. With the time that summer provides, it also offers space for perspective. Reflecting on the 2023-2024 school year, we can ask ourselves: What did we do well? What needs improvement? What would we do differently? How do we know? This is true on both the personal and professional level. On a professional level, depending on our role, we might be considering anything and everything from more engaging approaches to curriculum and instruction to tackling staff changes. Catholic Education Data Study: Results from the Principal Survey
