Wiki Loves Ramadan
is an annual global contest aimed at documenting and sharing the diverse customs and traditions observed during the month of Ramadan. The 2026 edition will focus on 32 countries, including Ghana, to capture the rich cultural practices, Islamic heritage, and biographies of significant Islamic figures. The contest wil run from February 16 to April 15, 2026, focusing on enhancing the representation of Ramadan traditions and Islamic heritage on Wikimedia platforms.

Mission
Wiki Loves Ramadan 2026 aims to bridge the gaps in knowledge about Ramadan traditions and Islamic history on Wikimedia projects. By encouraging global participation, the initiative aims to empower underrepresented communities and promote cultural documentation in multiple languages.
Vision
The vision of WLR 2026 is to build a comprehensive and multilingual repository of knowledge about Ramadan, showcasing the diversity of its observances across the world. This effort aims to enhance cultural understanding, foster pride in local traditions, and strengthen the representation of Islamic communities on Wikimedia platforms.
Objectives
Create or translate over (
10,000
) articles on Ramadan-related topics and significant Islamic figures.
Increase awareness and participation in Wikimedia projects, particularly in underrepresented regions.
Engage contributors from 32 countries and 26 language communities in documenting Ramadan traditions and cultural practices.
Empower local organizers with tools, training, and resources to lead national-level initiatives.
Scope
Wiki Loves Ramadan 2026 will focus on
Documenting cultural traditions, rituals, and culinary practices during Ramadan.
Highlighting places of worship and community events.
Creating and improving biographies of notable Islamic historical figures.
Encouraging multilingual contributions across 26 Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, WikiCommons, Wikivoyage, and Wikibooks.
Participation
Participation is open to everyone who is registered on Wikipedia. Both experienced editors and newcomers are welcome. There are no geographic restrictions, and contributions in all Wikipedia languages are encouraged.
Wikipedia Article Contribution
Participants can contribute by:
Creating new articles.
Expanding or improving existing articles.
Translating articles into different languages.
Adding reliable references and sources to existing content.
Enhancing articles with high-quality images related to Ramadan and its traditions.
Media Uploads on Commons Contribution
Enrich Wikimedia Commons by uploading high-quality, freely-licensed images of Islamic traditions and cultural heritage.

Rules
Content Creation Guidelines
Good Standing:
Editors must not have any active blocks for disruptive behaviour on any Wikimedia project from the start date of the contest or during the contest period.
No Pre-Existing Entries:
Editors cannot submit articles that they have worked on before the announcement of this contest. This should be a fresh contribution to Wikipedia.
Declaration of Conflicts of Interest:
Editors with potential conflicts of interest must disclose them on the talk page of their submission and avoid editing any entries with an existing COI.
No Self-Promotion:
Editors cannot participate in order to promote themselves or their own personal projects/works
Article Focus:
Submissions can be new articles or substantial improvements to existing articles. However, submissions must primarily focus on topics directly related to Ramadan, Islamic culture, or related figures, places, or traditions that are not yet well-covered on Wikipedia. Preference is given to creating new articles.
Referencing Standards:
All information must be verifiable and supported by citations from reliable, secondary sources, as listed in Wikipedia's guidelines. Citations must be correctly formatted and placed appropriately.
Neutral Point of View:
Articles must adhere to a neutral point of view, presenting information fairly and without bias. Any viewpoints must be attributed to reliable sources.
Copyright Compliance:
All content must be compliant with Wikimedia's copyright policies. Text and media used must either be original or licensed under a compatible Creative Commons license or be in the public domain.
Article Depth & Length:
Submissions must be of substantial depth, covering the topic in a comprehensive manner. Articles should go beyond basic definitions and provide insightful and detailed information. A minimum of

Appropriate Language and Tone:
Articles must adhere to the appropriate language and tone for Wikipedia, including formal and respectful language and avoiding any offensive or inflammatory terms. Articles also should be easily readable and understandable by the average reader.
No Machine Translation:
The use of machine translation alone is not acceptable. All articles, whether fully translated or not, must be revised by a human to ensure a readable article.

All submissions must be categorized under a clearly defined category on the respective language version of Wikipedia. This category will be:
