Women in Architecture
edit
Women make up only 20% of biographies on Wikipedia, and in December 2022, there were just 9 women listed in the category ‘
New Zealand women architects
’. Since then, the
New Zealand Women in Architecture WikiProject
has been working hard to address this gender disparity and celebrate the incredible mahi by women and non-binary people in architecture.

Increase visibility
edit
Wikipedia articles that are well written with a variety of references and images are viewed more, and articles that link through to other Wikipedia articles are more likely to be viewed. The focus of this edit-a-thon is improving existing articles and creating links on other pages.

Making Space
edit
Making Space
(ed. Elizabeth Cox) and some of the chapters are in Wikidata - so the unique identifier can be added to the 'add citation' box to create the reference. Using the chapters increases visibility of all the authors of this work so is a great thing to do, plus its faster. Chapters are listed in the Wikidata item on the book linked below.

The term 'architect'
edit
Registered Architects in New Zealand are authorised by the
New Zealand Registered Architects Board
through the Registered Architects Act 2005. Other people can design buildings but there are some things only Registered Architects can do.
The titles
registered architect
and
architect
are legally protected within New Zealand under the Registered Architects Act 2005. Within the context of building design and construction,
architect
or
registered architect
, can only be used if the individual has been registered by the
New Zealand Registered Architect Board
(NZRAB) and holds a current Certificate of Registration.
Architects Register search - look up the individual before writing the article to ensure the correct terms are used.
Retired architects - the title
architect
can be used for NZ retired architects and architects on voluntary suspension, as long as they are not providing architectural services.
Alternative terminology - alternative titles that can be used:
Architectural Designer
Building Designer
Draftsman
Architectural Practitioner
Architectural Graduate
Technician
