Before entering a wanted text please check to see that it has not already been included in Wikisource. Keep in mind that the work may have a different title, or that it may already exist as a sub-page of a larger work. If you know the date of publication and other publication data, providing that will be very helpful to anyone who may be inclined to upload the work.
Since we cannot include works that are currently copyright protected (unless it is clear that the rights owner has granted a free licence) we will not be adding them, and such request may be subject to removal.
Like most wikis, Wikisource has an
automatically-generated list of missing pages
, which can be used to get an idea of works, authors and other pages that are frequently referenced but missing.
Listed items may be mistakes
, such as alternate titles of existing pages, or inappropriate for Wikisource, and should first be double-checked as with any other potential additions.
For reference, please see
our inclusion criteria
and
links to other digital libraries

this in the

has a line of the speech and makes reference to a French translation,

Is there any reason to believe that she gave a speech at all? Here's all I can find: Rankin objected to the declaration of war (p. 9520, col. 2); then, after some sixteen pages of her colleagues' oratory, she attempted to speak but was refused the floor. Two days later (p.
9496
9646, column 3)
w:Clare Hoffman
mentioned "that I noticed on the day war was declared that recognition was denied to a Member of the House, the gentlewoman from Montana [Miss
Rankin
] to express her views." Rankin shows up again on the 15th (p. 9798, col. 3) to object to a bill proposing a death penalty in cases of wartime sabotage, and then seems to disappear from the record. If Rankin did have a speech prepared for the declaration of war, it does not appear in Part 9; nor can I find it in the Appendix. Did she publish it elsewhere?

wanted to spend a lot of time on this) his "Greater Men and Women of the Bible" and "Great Texts of the Bible," all of which are I think available at archive.org or elsewhere, I could start work on them.

Vital documents in international law

When I was in law school, my international law professor posted a list of "vital documents" that he felt anyone with an international practice should be familiar with. Most of these Wikisource already has; a few were magazine articles or the like, clearly under copyright and not within the scope of Wikisource. The remaining documents, still apparently missing from Wikisource but (to the best of my knowledge) in the public domain are:

What about importing
The Architecture of Open Source Applications
books? There's even a MediaWiki chapter in volume 2, so surely it might be of some interest to our community, and importing it here might help with translation facilities provided in the Wikimedia infrastructure. I suggest to import it in Wikisource, as this is a books with paperback available, but you might argue that it would have it's place on wikibooks. Thank you in advance for your feedback and any help on this subject. --

AFAIK, a Print on Demand published facsimile of a PD work doesn't introduce a fresh copyright on the content any more than publishing a scanned facsimile on a website. It's merely that fewer people would readily have access to the printed one. For further background reading, see the article about

It looks like those volumes are published from scans at EEBO Editions, ProQuest. Is that right? In that case we'll need someone with access to

We have many of the stories of
O. Henry
, but we lack clear sources for many of them. The author page mentions
The Complete Writing Of O. Henry
(1918) (14 Vols.), which would provide a source for all of O. Henry's work, and a complete or near complete collection of his work. I've too many projects in the air to take this on, but it seems like a reasonable suggestion. (Same for any other author we have unsourced and is old enough we can upload a complete collection of their writing.)--

At the time this request was made (2021 March 28; see

), it was indeed the case that Wikisource "lack[ed] clear sources for many of them". As of today, 2025 March 20, though, every leaf work linked on the O. Henry author page is either cited as part of a given selection or followed by a citation of the original source publication. The funny thing is that until just a few minutes ago,
The Complete Writing
was then the _only_ thing listed on the page aside from the play
Lo
that was "unsourced"—listed with incorrect title and publication date and no publisher. That's fixed now, and I've added a link to the Hathitrust scans.

FYI the work itself is under a CC-BY 4.0 license. In general it would be good to have the works hosted here as well to a. provide a convenient interwiki link between languages and b. to allow someone to double check the translation easily side-by-side.

is there a complete, canonical, PDF of this available? Ideally, we'd have a copy of the original for verifiability purposes. The MIT Press version is split up into lots of separate PDFs (and also claims a CC-BY-NC license, which is incompatible with Wikisource, though the PubPbub version doesn't have the NC bit).

is right, the published book is NC, but the PubPub version would be available and I believe it's otherwise identical except that it's missing the pagination information -- I don't know if Wikisource maintains that in any case. One could start by scraping the PubPub version and using Pandoc to convert it to MediaWiki -- unless Wikisource has a different method. -

Third edition if possible. There are various scans on Google Books and the Internet Archive; the most readable/OCRable of the third edition scans should be the one chosen.
GBooks option 1
- has a lot of slanted pages (only including for completeness)
Gbooks option 2
- has less of that
IA option 1
- seems fine
IA option 2
- also seems fine
I guess someone with more experience could judge which of these is likely to be most usable; either of the IA ones would be okay. I realize that the second part where the headwords are English words and the glosses are Lithuanian belongs more properly on lt.wikisource (but
they don't even use source-backed texts there
, which is inconvenient). Even if only the first part with Lithuanian headwords and English glosses is allowed here, that would still be great.

I've done a fair amount of work on Tennyson but can't find two of his earliest works on line (I've checked the usual IA/Hathi/BL/Bodleian/CUL, along with various US sites with publicly accessible digital scan content, Worldcat and online books pages). If anyone can access either of the following I'd appreciate a copy.
Poems, by Two Brothers
(1827), Alfred Tennyson and Charles Tennyson, London: printed for W. Simpkin and R. Marshall, Stationers'-hall-court; and J. and J. Jackson, Louth.
Poems, chiefly Lyrical
(1830), by Alfred Tennyson, London: Effingham Wilson, Royal Exchange, Cornhill

A new request for editors/proofreaders to continue work on this project started several ago. The first 18 volumes are almost complete, volumes 19 to 29 need more proofing. There's a project page here:

I tried to find these Regulations' citation, but cases and Hansard documents doesn't give out any information. It is therefore suspected that it's not even published as S.R & O. (and note that there was no S.I. in 1933).

It was certainly not published in the consolidated volume, as the relevant volume states that given that in that era Regulations of a 'temporary' nature were not included in those volumes. Have you tried the London Gazette?

The Regulations were certainly printed individually as I find references in the Gazette -

These may have (by virtue of urgency) been directly printed by the Ministry of Transport..

I have been (slowly) doing work on Volume 3 of 'Horrid Mysteries', currently part of the 'monthly challenge'. However, it is only one volume of a four volume novel. Despite looking in a few places (BL, Bodelian, CUL, Google, IA, ECCO, etc.) I have not been able to locate scans of the other three volumes. The library stamp in Vol. 3. is from the Taylor Institution library, which is part of the Bodelian, and their catalogue identifies that they hold all four volumes but only v.3 has a scanned version.
The only place I found a full description (signatures, number of pages) of the four volumes is on the New York Public Library website.
The Manchester University Library has a link to a scanned version as part of the Corvey Collection at Nineteen Century Collections online (NCCO), to which I don't have access. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Doing an edition of EB is an immense quantity of work, and I don't think it's worth doing every one that enters PD. I'd wait four years for EB1933, as the next after that is '73, which will not be PD for ~43 years, so '33 will be (till then) the "last" edition. —

For PD-1996, a work needs to be PD in its home country on the URAA data, usually (and for India) 1/1/1996. IIRA, in 1996, India was life+50, but even then, this work wouldn't be out of copyright until after 1962+50, or 2012. So 3000 Precious Gems is going to be in copyright in the US until 2045.--

: What's the final conclusion regarding the copyright status of these books? At least the one published in 1917 is public domain in the USA, right? If yes, then can it go to commons? Or should it be uploaded to en.wikisource? Also as the author died less than 70 years ago, does this have any implications on the copyright status of this book, for example, in the EU? --

Claims and Teachings Of Ahmed is hostable at commons as it's both PD-India and PD-US. 3000 Precious Gems is hostable neither here not there, as PD-US is required by both. (Regarding EU copyright, per
w:List of copyright terms of countries#European union
, it seems all member states for once got in line and followed the directive, meaning that, yes, they're not PD in europe, but that doesn't really matter, unless you upload thousands of them and you have revealed your real name (c.f. Dcoetzee and the NPG)). —

I'm not aware of any "good" method, but if you have the patience, you can 1) go to the book's page 2) setup the download form for max-res JPGs 3) scroll up to the first page 4) paste the first snippet from
User:Alien333/test#Getting hathi scan images
into your console.
It essentially fakes a person clicking "download" and then "next page" repetitively, with a 2secs break between clicks (needed for stuff to load). It takes a really long while, but eh, better than nothing. And you can do something else while it loads.
I'm downloading the images right now; do you prefer a PDF or DJVU? —

Depends on what you mean by "relatively easily". The badly-named "
Internet Archive Downloader

It would be quite possible to just start a download, do something else, start the next a few minutes later, &c. (On my side the main risk would be running out of disk space, lol.) —

Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Ordinance, 1955 (Ordinance 26 of 1955)—introduced detention without trial, also still "temporary" current law now
Republic of Singapore Independence Act, 1965 (Act 9 of 1965)—which implements the ejection of Singapore from Malaysia
Administration of Muslim Law Act, 1966 (Act 27 of 1966)—sharia as imposed in Singapore
Vandalism Act, 1966 (Act 38 of 1966)—caning for vandals
Undesirable Publications Act, 1967 (Act 3 of 1967)—censorship legislation
Enlistment Act, 1970 (Act 25 of 1970)—conscription imposed
Misuse of Drugs Act, 1973 (Act 5 of 1973)—Singapore's drug control law
Misuse of Drugs Act, 1975 (Act 49 of 1975)—mandatory death penalty for drug offences first appeared
Application of English Law Act 1993 (Act 35 of 1993)—extended several British legislation post independence (normally countries do the opposite)
Regulation of Imports and Exports (Chewing Gum) Regulations 1995 (G. N. No. S 533/1995)—one of the legislation implementing the chewing gum ban
I know this is a long list to do, and I do try to avoid long texts (i.e. over 100 pages). Hopefully someone can help with obtaining scans, thank you!

I'm afraid I don't have a copy of the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Ordinance, 1955 (Ordinance 26 of 1955). As for the others, I think you wouldn't be able to upload any statutes published after 1955, as Singapore government publications are copyrighted for 70 years after the year of publication: see "
c:Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Singapore
".

For English Wikisource, U.S. copyright law is applicable (
WS:COPY
The copyright laws applicable to Wikisource are primarily those of the United States of America...
), and they don't recognize copyright in legislation, even by foreign governments―see section 313.6(C)(2) of the
Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices
(at pp. 84-85).
Moreover, the Republic of Singapore Independence Act 1965 has just gone through the 70-year limit (1965+70=2025).

By Kenneth Banning, published 1929. As the name suggests, a book of rhymes with censor boxes added for comedic purposes.
Here's a relevant blog post describing the book.

I'm quite busy at the moment so it'll probably be some time before I can work on it. Might redo the contents though.

I occasionally need to direct people to the below set of exemplary cases (and a few non-case government documents). I would love to be able to direct them to Wikisource for these rather than one of the commercial citation services. Any takers for any of the below?
