– World War II studies were brought to life when Fayette County fifth-graders spent a day at CAF Airbase Georgia’s Warbird Museum in Peachtree City, Ga. My assigned task was to help install the carburetor on the #1 engine. This massive contraption for the R3350 engine weighs somewhere in the ballpark of 35 pounds and sits atop the aft portion of the engine. Seems like a simple task. Brewer Jr. Accounted For WASHINGTON, September 1, 2023 – The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that U.S. Army Air Forces 2nd Lt. Fred L. Brewer Jr., 23, of Charlotte, North Carolina, killed during World War II, was accounted for Aug. 10, 2023. In late 1944, Brewer was a pilot with the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, also known as the Tuskegee Airmen, in the European Theater. The aircraft was built too late to see action in World War II. Bu No. 122674 first took to the air on March 10, 1949, and was delivered to the Navy on April 7, 1949. Project Recover Continues MIA Search in Palau July 13, 2023, Woodland, CA- This month, 15 Project Recover team members are conducting a MIA recovery mission in Palau. During World War II, the U.S. conducted nine major air campaigns over the island nation of Palau, resulting in the loss of over 200 aircraft and 1,800 service members. Project Recover has located 37 aircraft sites in Palau associated with 89 MIAs/ POWs and has brought home 13 American heroes from those sites. An estimated 480 American service members remain missing in action on the island.
