Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group Co., Ltd.
Overview
Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group Co., Ltd. is a state-owned enterprise headquartered in Xinghuacun Village, Fenyang City, Shanxi Province, China. The company specializes in the production of premium Chinese liquor, with its flagship products being Fenjiu (a light-aroma baijiu) and Zhuyeqing (a traditional herbal liqueur). Established in 1949 as a state-owned distillery, the company has grown into one of China's largest and most prestigious liquor producers, with annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of premium liquor and over 8,000 employees. The company operates under the supervision of the Shanxi Provincial People's Government State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.
History
Founded in 1949 as the state-owned Xinghuacun Fenjiu Distillery, the company inherited precious cultural heritage from previous generations and developed a quality management system based on the principle of "taking the lead while drawing from others' strengths, inheriting the essence, and creating our own style."
In 1952, Fenjiu was recognized as one of China's "Four Great Famous Liquors" at the first National Liquor Evaluation Conference. The company further solidified its reputation in 1963 at the second National Liquor Evaluation Conference, where it again received the National Famous Liquor award and a gold medal. Fenjiu subsequently won this prestigious award in all five national liquor evaluations held during this period. Zhuyeqing was also named a Chinese famous liquor three times consecutively and won five international gold medals.
The company underwent significant transformations in its organizational structure. In August 1993, the state-owned Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Distillery was reorganized into an independent legal entity with autonomous operations and financial responsibility—the Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu (Group) Company. The same year, the company implemented a shareholding system reform, establishing the Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Distillery Co., Ltd., which became the first listed company in Shanxi Province when it was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
On March 2, 2002, with authorization from the Shanxi Provincial Government, the company was restructured into its current form—Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group Co., Ltd. The company achieved a significant milestone in November 2012 when its sales revenue exceeded 10.1 billion yuan, three years ahead of the "12th Five-Year Plan" target. In October 2019, the company was selected for the Xinhua News Agency's National Brand Project · Chinese Time-honored Brand Revitalization Action. In November 2020, it was listed as a provincial-level key backbone enterprise.

Cultural Significance
The company's location in Xinghuacun Village, Fenyang City, Shanxi Province, is considered the birthplace of Chinese liquor and liquor culture. The village's brewing history dates back at least 3,000 years to the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The area possesses unique geographical conditions, including excellent underground water resources and specific microorganisms essential for fermentation, creating an ideal environment for liquor production.
Fenjiu culture has deep historical roots and represents an important branch of Jin merchant culture, sharing a common heritage with Yellow River culture. The brand has achieved national recognition four times throughout history. First, during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (1,500 years ago), Fenjiu became famous as a court imperial liquor favored by Emperor Wucheng of the Northern Qi Dynasty and was recorded in the Twenty-Four Histories. Second, in 1915, Fenjiu won the Gold Medal for Excellence at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, becoming China's premier liquor brand. Third, in 2007, Fenjiu continued its legacy as a national famous liquor, with Zhuyeqing being recognized as a Chinese famous brand product.
Modern Status

The company's core subsidiary, Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Distillery Co., Ltd., listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 1993, is known as "China's first liquor stock" and "Shanxi's first stock."
The company holds two renowned Chinese trademarks: "Xinghuacun" and "Zhuyeqing." According to the 2006 "China's 500 Most Valuable Brands" ranking, the "Xinghuacun" brand was valued at 4.776 billion yuan. The company's main products include six series: Fenjiu, Zhuyeqing, Rose Fenjiu, Baiyu Fenjiu, wine, and beer. Zhuyeqing is the only Chinese health-recognized herbal liqueur certified by the Ministry of Health.
In recent years, the company has continued to expand and modernize its operations.
